Hello, I write Pine Script and MQL5 and trade my own systems, so I'll go straight to the two details that decide whether this script behaves the same in backtest and live. Signal confirmation. If the engulfing condition is evaluated on a forming bar, the signal appears and disappears as price moves — that's repainting, and it makes the Strategy Tester results meaningless. I evaluate only on confirmed bars, so what you see in the backtest is what you'd have traded. Engulfing definition. There's more than one. Body-only comparison against the previous body, or including wicks. Whether the previous candle must close opposite. Each version produces a noticeably different signal count, so I'd expose it as an input with the default documented rather than picking one silently and having you wonder later why the count doesn't match your manual reading. On TP/SL units: I'd suggest ATR-based as the default with a fixed-points option, because fixed distances behave very differently across instruments and across volatility regimes — the same 20 points is a scratch on one pair and a full move on another. Both available as an input, your choice which you run. Also included: long-only, short-only or both; reversal on or off; entry and exit plotted on chart; alerts on entry and exit; and comments written so you can adjust logic yourself. One question: which instruments and timeframes will you run it on? That informs the ATR defaults I ship.

Pine v5 strategy, exactly as you listed it: bullish and bearish engulfing taken only with the 50-EMA bias (close above the EMA for longs, below for shorts), take-profit and stop-loss as inputs in the same unit (ticks by default, with a % option, documented in the header), entry and exit plotted on the chart, position reversal on/off, long-only / short-only / both, and it runs in the Strategy Tester with no extra tweaking. One point I settle before coding, because it changes the back-test: an engulfing bar is only known at its close, so the entry goes on the next bar's open. The script says so in the comments, with a switch for entering on the signal bar's close if you prefer the more optimistic fill. Similar work: a Pine v6 SuperTrend + eleven-filter strategy I am porting this week, and MQL5 EAs on candlestick patterns (engulfing, pin bar, strong close) with EMA bias delivered on the MQL5 freelance service.
