Hey, I will refactor your production Yii2 backend phase by phase, breaking down monolithic controllers and tightening validation, error handling, and separation of responsibilities, all without disrupting your live mobile app or admin panel. On a similar legacy PHP refactor, I worked through a 12,000 line controller by extracting service classes one endpoint group at a time, running regression checks against the existing API contract after each merge. Zero production incidents throughout. Questions: 1) Is the codebase using Yii2 ActiveRecord heavily, or are there raw SQL queries mixed in? 2) Do you have any existing test coverage (unit or integration), or will I build that as part of Phase 1? Share the assessment document and I will review your Phase 1 scope tonight. Ready to start whenever you are. Kamran

Hi — Elias here from Miami. I see you're looking to enhance the quality and maintainability of your PHP codebase. This is essential for ensuring your system can adapt to future needs without excessive overhead. A common issue in projects like this is related to scalability and workflow complexity. As the codebase grows, maintaining clean architecture and ensuring seamless integrations can become challenging. It looks straightforward initially, but hidden risks often surface when managing permissions and API interactions. My approach would involve a thorough audit of the existing code to identify bottlenecks and areas for improvement. I would prioritize refactoring for maintainability, ensuring the system remains stable and easy to expand. This includes implementing automated testing and solid version control practices to streamline development. I've worked on similar projects where I improved backend performance and maintainability, leading to smoother deployment and fewer production issues. A few questions to better understand the scope: Q1 – What specific aspects of the codebase are you most concerned about improving? Q2 – Are there particular integrations or workflows that are critical to your operations? Q3 – What are your expectations regarding scaling and future feature additions? Happy to discuss the details and suggest the best technical approach. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hello ClientFirstName, I can see the real challenge here: protecting a live PHP backend from slow decay while improving it phase by phase, without disturbing production. That is exactly the kind of work I do best. I’ve refactored large PHP codebases by isolating tightly coupled logic, extracting smaller services, strengthening validation and error handling, and introducing safer tests before each delivery. I’m comfortable working in legacy systems and I understand the discipline required to improve architecture without forcing a rewrite. For a controller with 10,000+ lines, I’d first map responsibilities, add characterization tests around current behavior, then split the code into focused components in small, reviewable steps. I’d keep changes scoped, document each phase clearly, and verify every adjustment against the existing API and admin flows. I’ve shared an initial estimate based on your description, and once we go over a few technical or functional details, I’ll confirm the exact cost and delivery schedule. Best regards, Asad 1. What is the current test coverage around the most critical endpoints? 2. Is the codebase already using Yii2 conventions consistently, or are there legacy patterns mixed in? 3. Which modules are highest priority for the first improvement phase? What level of automated test coverage already exists around the highest-risk modules, and which phase should be stabilized first? Looking forward to your reply so we can finalize the exact plan.

I can help refactor your production PHP backend incrementally, improving architecture, reducing technical debt, and enhancing maintainability without disrupting existing functionality for your mobile app and admin panel. While my primary PHP framework experience is with Laravel rather than Yii2, I've successfully refactored large legacy codebases applying SOLID principles, design patterns, and clean architecture that are framework-agnostic. For the Affiliate Platform, I worked with Laravel 11 managing 56 controllers and 120+ models, refactoring tightly coupled business logic into service classes, implementing repository patterns for data access, extracting validation into form request classes, and breaking monolithic modules into bounded contexts. The system handles complex wholesale pricing, multi-store management, rewards, and campaign builders requiring careful separation of concerns. My refactoring approach for your Yii2 backend will start by thoroughly reviewing your existing assessment and phased roadmap to understand the current architecture, dependencies, and pain points. Hi, I'm interested in your Senior PHP Backend Engineer role. I have 7+ years of PHP experience, including refactoring large legacy applications while preserving production stability. My focus is on reducing technical debt through safe, incremental improvements rather than rewrites. 1. Legacy Code Experience: I've worked on legacy PHP systems with oversized controllers, duplicated logic, and tightly coupled code. I improved maintainability by extracting services, applying SOLID principles, strengthening validation, and improving error handling while keeping functionality unchanged through thorough testing. 2. Refactoring Approach: For a 10,000+ line controller, I'd first analyze dependencies and endpoints, then refactor one logical module at a time by moving business logic into service classes, improving separation of concerns, and keeping the API behavior unchanged. 3. Regression Prevention: I use small commits, manual/API regression testing, staging validation, database verification, and code reviews to ensure every refactoring preserves existing functionality. 4. Yii2 Experience: Yes. I've worked on Yii2 production systems involving REST APIs, RBAC, admin panels, MySQL optimization, bug fixes, performance improvements, and long-term maintenance. Your phased, stability-first approach matches how I work. I'd be glad to contribute to the long-term improvement of your backend. Regards Kuldeepak

Hello!, This is James from Hollywood... I read your project description carefully, and I understand the goal is not just fixing PHP issues, but improving the quality, maintainability, and stability of the backend without disrupting the existing system. I’m a senior Full-Stack & AI Engineer with about 15 years of experience in PHP, MySQL, backend architecture, API development, debugging, Git, and production troubleshooting. I’ve worked on legacy codebases, Yii2 systems, and high-load apps where clean refactoring and safe, incremental improvements mattered most. My approach would be: 1. Audit the codebase and find the highest-risk areas 2. Fix bugs and stability issues first 3. Improve structure and readability step by step 4. Add or improve tests where they bring real value 5. Document changes so future work is easier Could you please clarify the following questions to help me better understand the project? 1. Is the main priority bug fixing, refactoring, or both? 2. Are there specific Yii2 modules or API endpoints causing the biggest issues? 3. Do you already have tests in place, or should I help introduce a lightweight testing workflow? I’ve handled similar backend cleanup work on PHP admin panels, API-driven platforms, and internal SaaS dashboards. I can jump into the codebase, identify the real issues fast, and make practical improvements that hold up in production. If you want someone who reads the details and treats the codebase carefully, I’d be glad to chat.

It sounds like you've already done the hardest part by assessing the system and breaking the work into controlled phases. That's exactly how I'd approach a production backend with this level of technical debt—small, reversible changes that improve the code without changing behavior. I've worked on legacy PHP systems where business logic, database access, and validation had gradually merged into large classes. My first step is always to understand dependencies, isolate one responsibility at a time, add regression tests around existing behavior, then refactor behind those safety checks before removing any confirmed legacy code. I follow the assigned roadmap rather than introducing unnecessary architectural changes, documenting every completed phase, risks, and verification results. I also have extensive experience with PHP, MySQL, Git, debugging, and production refactoring, although my framework background is primarily Laravel and Symfony rather than Yii2. Keeping a live system stable while making it easier to maintain is work I'm comfortable with, and I'm ready to start with the first assigned phase.

Hi, this is exactly the kind of work I do regularly - hardening a live production backend incrementally without a rewrite. I have 10+ years of PHP backend experience across Symfony, Laravel, and other MVC frameworks (adaptable to Yii2 quickly given that background), and I've run this same playbook on my own production platforms: breaking up monolithic modules, decoupling business logic, tightening validation and security, and removing duplication, all while keeping the live API and admin panel running. To answer your screening question directly: I have extensive experience with Symfony and Laravel specifically, plus broader MVC-framework architecture work, so picking up Yii2's conventions is straightforward. I'd start from the assessment and roadmap you already have, confirm the highest-risk modules first, and work through them behind tests so regressions surface immediately - one phase at a time, with your sign-off before moving on, per your rules. Happy to walk through my approach to sequencing this safely.

Hi, I can incrementally improve your production PHP backend’s quality, stability, and architecture without changing current behavior or triggering a rewrite. I’ll address monolithic modules, tight coupling, oversized files, inconsistent validation, duplication, weak separation, and security gaps—guided by your existing assessment and phased roadmap—using small, test‑backed refactors deployed safely behind feature flags. Focus areas • Extract and modularize business logic with clear boundaries and interfaces • Introduce consistent request validation and DTOs • Implement coding standards, static analysis, and automated tests • Reduce duplication and enforce separation of concerns • Harden security, sanitize inputs, review auth and permissions • Add observability: structured logs, metrics, traces for safe rollouts Delivery will be iterative, with zero‑downtime releases and change logs aligned to the roadmap. I’ve led similar refactors on large PHP backends in production and can share concise case studies on request. Best regards, Muhammad Usman
