We are interested in creating a personalized homepage system similar to the way myyahoo, google homepages, protopage work.
We are not interested in the absolute freedom of positioning protopage provides.
Rather we would like to be able to create the widgets/gadgets and not allow the users to be able to add their own. Users will be able to add any of the existing ones we have created or will create (or remove them) from their own homepage.
Would like to save homepage preferences in a mysql database from which every user can login and see their own page. The preferences can be stored in a cookie.
Would like a clear way to add extra widgets/gadgets but no fancy or easy administration section is required, as long as there is documentation on where and how new widgets/gadgets will be created/edited and stored. The only functionality we require by the login is to save the homepage preferences of the user.
