It's worth a few bucks to me to get this fixed if possible...
I tried to help a buddy our with an infestation of the trojan.bookmark.b virus and have made the problem much worse. After booting up (F8/safe mode/command prompt) I tried to delete the [url removed, login to view] as directed by Norton
When I realized I couldn't delete the file (access denied) I used msconfig and stripped it all the way down to safe mode command prompt only. Now no matter how I tell it to boot up, it comes up with safe mode command prompt. When I close the dos screen I'm left with a black window and nothing else.
I need (detailed) instructions!
1) Is there a way to restore the original msconfig settings? If so, how?
2) When I tried to restore the manufacturers disk, it wants to reformat the HDD - this would cause my friend to go into cardiac arrest. Is there any way to overlay XP like the old win 9x/2000 OS?
3) If the answer to these two is "no" I'll take any advice!
