Printer Driver Modification Project description We have currently invested in a Rimage Everest II, CD thermo printer (US $6000) This printer is the #1 printer in the world for printing high quality images on a CD or DVD disc. But as soon as we got it, we started to rebuild it for printing small plastic signs instead of discs. This is where we encountered our problem. A CD or DVD disc I 120mm in diameter so we thought that we could print a 120*120mm plastic sign because the print head was printing that wide, but when wee try to print that’s size we will get a perfect 120mm circular shaped print, so at the “corners?? of the sign we will only get a black pattern printed. This means that something in the driver tells the print head to only print circular shapes. When we contacted Rimage and discussed our problem, we got the answer that it will take our technicians 3-4 weeks to se if the could fix it!? In other words, there was no interest from them to handle this. What we need Our primary goal is to be able to print 120*120mm. If this can’t be achieved, we will be satisfied with “turning off?? the pattern that is printed in the corners. Possible Solutions In the printer driver you can select different types of media to print on (Silver CDR, White CDR etc) also you can adjust how close to the centre hole (hub) you want to print. This is where it’s starting to be interesting, because in a previous driver you where not able to print “over?? the hub. The setting for hub diameter stopped at 17mm, but in the new version you can select diameter 0mm meaning that the hub is completely overprinted. This has no affect on a CD or DVD because of the physical hole, but on our plastic signs this means that e will get the print in the centre of the sign as well. So hopefully this means that with some modification of the driver, we will be able to print the “whole?? sign.
