We have a Windows .exe file that the user downloads and "runs" from their Windows machine. We need a way of passing data to that executable file BEFORE it is executed.
We'd like to do this WITHOUT using ActiveX, because of the security concerns over ActiveX content.
Ideally, we'd like to "embed" unique user/visitor information into the application prior to it being downloaded -- essentially creating each downloaded file "on the fly" . . .
Our web server will be a Unix/Linux server, but we can get an NT server if necessary for this functionality.
We want to pass information like zip code, email address, and "user ID" to the executable so it has that information once the software is installed.
We need to avoid any "security warnings" that would freak out our visitors, so ActiveX is not really an option here.
Thanks,
