My client has four departments, each of which generating data which needs to be captured, and then universally accessed and queried from machines across platforms (Mostly XP and OSX).
I need a database, preferably built on an open source base, preferably accessible from a browser for input & query (most likely Firefox), which I can install on a server within my client's LAN.
Ideally, imports & exports to/from Access and Sage.
In total, the intranet will consist of roughly 40 input pages for the departments to enter/view data. In addition, approximately ten high-level analysis 'view only' pages, which autoload preset results from the data recorded at the input level. Some formulas will be necessary, eg. compare figures in different fields, and show the difference as a plus or minus figure (i.e. to show whether a given business objective is on target). Again, all inputting/viewing to be done via a browser, so I'm looking for a HTML GUI.
Username/password authentication will be necessary, for initial access to the site, and then for access to each page. A seperate 'admin' page will be necessary to dictate user permissions by authorising given usernames to access individual pages.
I'm suggesting a browser interfaced open source database as its the best way I can think of to get a universal, platform independant solution. I'm not the expert, though, that's why I'm advertising here. If you have a better solution, I'm all ears. As long as it performs the functions as described, I'm open to ideas.
Please note that this advert is for a quote ONLY. Once a quote is secured, my client will acquire funding to the required amount, however this could take a month or more.
More projects will be forthcoming, and the successful provider of this solution will be given automatic first refusal on them.
