Hello, I am building a website in wordpress - with a premium press template and a child theme i have built off it.
I want to have a home page with a top menu that has different website sections on it (that is easy enough). For argument sakes lets say my site is selling boats. I want in the top menu ‘Sailing Boats’ ‘Motor Boats’ and say ‘Inflatable boats’.
The home page is set to sailing boats by default and so all of the search categories and taxonomies are sailing specific. When a user clicks the ‘Motor boats’ tab they are taken to an almost identical version of the home page (but with content updated for motor boats ie headlines, carousel etc) and the search now shows only the Motor Boat specific categories. The sailing categories shown on the last page are now gone unless a user clicks on the ‘Sailing boats’ tab in the top menu.
This is common on sites like autotrader with cars, vans, etc. On each section the search categorises and makes and models in the search are specific to the section of the website – but the user is still logged onto one site and can add listings to favorites etc. Otherwise there would be one great big taxonomy of makes and models spanning bikes, cars, vans, trucks etc.
So when a user clicks ‘Motor Boats’ the web address is [url removed, login to view] and its a homepage within a homepage. I have built a nice search box and want it on every main section every page.
I keep wondering if there is way of making each tab (sailing boats, motorboats, inflatable boats etc) its own site within a site.
I NEED THIS FUNCTIONALITY so all comments are welcome.
I have tried converting the site to a multisite but the problem is that there is no whole search for the site. ie. to use ebay as example. If I am in ebay motors with motors specific search and advertising, and enter raincoat in the search, it does not say no items available.... it merely searches the entire site for clothes and returns them accordingly.
2) I need people to be able to advertise main objects in the listing categories but also spare parts. So for the advanced search to work I need to make certain attributes required. So in the example of say a motorbike, make, model, fuel type, etc are all required so my advanced search allows users to find a make, model, fuel type etc.... BUT... I also want people to be able to list spare parts. So they select spare parts but then are required to fill out make, model, fuels types etc. Not really relevant for a bike windscreen! - I hope that explains the problem. There might be a couple of minor changes that I need towards the end of the project but these are the stumbling blocks that I have hit. Moneywise I am not sure of costs or time. Its a limited budget but quote me and we can discuss.
I do not think this is a big job for somone with the necessary skills.
