Approximately 1/10 of 1% of our orders come via the Internet and are not a part of this project. The rest of our work is done within a network of existing dealers. Of those dealers, we have 1 large dealer that provides the majority of the orders and we follow their online procedures to process their orders.
The smallest portion of our work is from our very small dealers and that is where we have been experiencing problems. They have a hodge-podge of ways to order and usually make up their own forms to place an order. It's very confusing, frustrating, and ripe to cause trouble. 99% of my headaches come from these orders.
I'd like to setup a non-published order entry page to solve that problem. They would fill in a form and submit it to us. This way we could control their choices by allowing check boxes & drop down menus. They would be forced to follow a standard procedure that would make it better for them -- and for us.
I can visualize the form done in VB6, but I have no experience in web based languages such as PHP (my 1st choice). If we could find a clever way to allow them to enter a secure user name and password, we could pre-populate much of the information for them. The rest is simply limiting choices and providing information to them about the choices. When they submit, it should be emailed to me. No credit card numbers are used online (These are long term customers and I have their card numbers on file)
It's really a simple business to run and I have narrowed the options to a select few.
I don't want my email address seen by the spam bots. The program should have error checking built in & room for comments as needed. You will have access to a real on-line website for your testing. After it is complete, I will move it to the correct website address.
