I am in search of a coder to help design an ecommerce website for a print music store in Washington, DC. I am interested in using open source applications, particularly CRE Loaded and Zen Cart, although we are willing to consider other products. The database of products is currently in a .dbf file and the data will have to be massaged and reduced (the current database has more than 1 million records and many of the records should not be on the website). We subscribe to a service that collects information from the music publishers and provides us with quarterly updates, but this information is not assembled in such a way that it can be searched by category (such as by instrument or by composer). So I will have to go through the database and add category information and standardize each record. The easiest way for me to do this is using MS Access queries, so I need the data converted from .dbf to .mdb. Then after massaging I will need an easy way to convert the file to MySQL and upload to the website. Eventually we will also add an events calendar, mailing lists, a content management system and maybe a company calendar accessible only to our staff. We currently have eight email accounts, which we will move to our new host (I haven’t mentioned that yet ??" we are also looking for a new host, if you have any recommendations). If possible, we would like to have a simple three-pane design website with shopping cart up and running by mid February.
