We are designing an RIA, and need to decide on a deployment language. The application will be graphically intense and we need some performance tests in Java, Processing, Flash, and C++/OpenGL. We have a small very specific set of graphic functions that we want to test in each language -- primarily rendering layers of bitmaps and a small set of transformations on those bitmaps. Each app will have a small number of UI fields controlling the quantity of bitmaps and parameters for the transforms / graphical fx (e.g. zoom, rotate, crop, colorize, etc). Each app will need to have a simple timer and print to the screen performance times for each language / set of transforms. We are also interested in comparing JMF video streaming with Flash.
