POS System

Hello. Im beging my VB project and I am not sure if I should use VB 6.0 or Visual C++ to create a POS application. The actuall program layout is going to be simple, but I want to use lots of graphics to make it look nice. The DB will be SQL 2000. What would you recomend? Also.. in VB 6.0 how do you code the command to write to a certain DB talbe? Do you need to open the form with the DB table in it just like in Access, or can you write to the tables if they are not open in a form? Thank you :-) Also..
