I am seeking an experienced Linux pro to help with a project designed to expand linux within the public, private, and charter school sector. Although I am aware of several previous and current attempts to do this, I feel this attempt is unique because we are a experienced group of educators as well as technology & linux enthusiasts. The scope of the project is to provide customization of an existing linux distro (most likely RedHat, but we are open to other alternatives) according to a specific, well documented plan. It will involve creating a distro very tighly focused on the needs of schools - emphasizing ease of use, security, and third party educational software integration. Examples of the scope of work will be integrating graphics into the GUI, changing menu items, customizing security/network/etc, installing and testing a list of third party educational software titles, creating a distribution copy, resolving hardware conflicts, etc. I would estimate an experienced Linux developer could complete all items in the initial plan in 3-4 weeks (likely less). The successful coder will have the opportunity to continue work on the project as we move forward along a documented upgrade path.
1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done. 2) Installation package that will install the software (in ready-to-run condition) on the platform(s) specified in this bid request. 3) Complete ownership and distribution copyrights to all work purchased.
