I developed a somewhat unusual chat program (Both a client and a server) in PureBasic, but then found out PureBasic isn't too stable with threads or networking. I'd like to have everything ported to, and optimized to work with, PowerBasic 8 for Windows. I would do it myself, but time constraints make this difficult, and it's been years since I programmed in Powerbasic (And it was for DOS), so I need a jump start to help me transition to PowerBasic.
The project is a basic chat program, with features to securely authenticate clients, verify if clients are connected, recognize when they disconnect, and reconnect them when/if possible.
The client is only about 600 lines, and that includes lots of blank lines, and comments. The server is about 740 lines, with lots of blank lines and comments.
This chat program will need to be able to handle hundreds of simultaneous connections.
I will later incorporate this program into a larger project, and it is very important the code is neat, well documented, and very stable.
I have no interest in porting this to VB, or any other such bloated language. While the server isn't too important, the clients need to be under 50K, with no runtimes, and run at non-interpreted speeds. This is why PowerBasic was chosen.
