I've found a Perl script ([url removed, login to view]) called [url removed, login to view] which will retrieve data from an SMA Sunny Boy solar inverter. I want this converting to a VB.net console application so I can use it as a building block. It does not have to look pretty as I'm only really after the communications bit. On the same site there is also the protocol documentation. I'm not bothered about the parts that write to the database, just simple [url removed, login to view] commands will do to prove it's getting the data. I also have full C source code for another piece of software that also talks to the inverter written by SMA.
In order to test your code I can put my inverter on the internet using a serial device server to you would read and write to a port on an IP address. My inverter only works during UK daylight hours.

You could simply provide me the IP address of your test device and I will send you a demo program written in VB.NET 2010 once I pass the test. What do you think?
