I have a very specific idea of exactly what I want from this site in terms of functionality and operability but am obviously open to suggestions on how it should be done and the design/layout (to some extent).
It's to be a website based on transfer rumours of players both in and out for a massive football (soccer) team in the UK. Essentially, I suspect that we would need 3 blogs - HOT, NOT and GET SHOT. For each player rumoured to be joining I would write up a piece on them and have an overall rating of likelihood and benefit to the team. I'd also like a poll and comment section for visitors with a summary of the findings being placed on the main blog post for that rumour.
e.g. say player X has been rumoured to join. I'd write a profile of X with a few links and give a likelihood of 9 out of 10 and benefit of 8 out of 10. At the bottom of the post would be a "have your say" section as with any blog but it would also include one or two poll questions like "will X join?" and "what rating do you give X?" as well as a box to leave comments. This shouldn't be too complicated in itself and standard blogs with a poll plug in should do this. However:
Things get slightly more difficult because there are likely to be numerous posts for each player. For instance, two weeks after the initial post, X comes out and says he would chew off his left elbow if the transfer were to go through. Obviously, a new category can be added for each player but I need to know if it's possible to display the same results from the polls in each post I then add for this player only without having to ask the same poll over and over again. It would also be good, although possibly unfeasible, to have a sort of mini page dedicated to the player that shows live poll results and a player profile as well as a feed to the latest 3 or 5 posts about that player.
I also want a homepage that has links to the HOT, NOT and GET SHOT sections. The homepage should have "highlights" of the latest news (again using feeds) and "highlights" of some of the more popular polls.
The big problem I can see is that HOT rumours will become NOT rumours and vice versa. I need an easy way to relegate or promote players and all posts associated with that player to the respective section without having to fart around too much.
In time, possibly straight away, I also want to include more community aspects to the site. Perhaps add a forum with sections for each of the rumours and other sections.
It's all got to run smoothly and quickly. When a rumour starts people search on the name of the player and I want to be able to take advantage of these searches. I know a lot of that will be down to the speed I can get rumours onto the site and how quickly I get to hear the news but I don't want to be hampered having to arse about with too many categories and moving several posts from one section to another. There will be a lot of pages with excellent advertising potential on each page and the team in question has huge worldwide support. It would be my aim to expand on this with further teams and possibly more sports creating a massive network over time.
Give me your thoughts. I probably won't be rushing into anything but am more than glad of your observations and ideas and once I do get going I'd want things to move quickly. Ideally, I would like to have a basic framework up by the end of the world cup because transfer rumours will be rife. Bear in mind, it's only 19 days to the start of the world cup so let me know how quickly there would be something in place that I could work with. Be releastic because we can always add to it in time. I'm looking for a long term partner on this one.
I have no idea of the budget, but I do appreciate it's going to cost more than the 30-100 set. I didn't know where to start, so please bid $100 for now and let me know the actual price in your bid or on the PMB.
