I’m developing an industrial-grade programmable logic controller intended to run closed-loop control systems on a factory floor. The job centres on hardware only: turning the functional specification I will supply into a production-ready board set. At a minimum I need complete schematics, an optimised PCB layout, recommended component stack (with industrial-temperature parts), and manufacturing files ready for prototype build. The design must tolerate harsh electrical noise, accept 24 V DC field power, expose isolated digital and analogue I/O, and provide standard fieldbus options such as Modbus-RTU over RS-485; extra Ethernet or CAN is a plus if it fits within the available board footprint. Acceptance is straightforward: the first-run prototype should power up, enumerate over the chosen bus, toggle outputs under bench test, and meet 500 V isolation on every opto-isolated channel. I’ll handle firmware once hardware is proven, so clear pin maps and test points in the documentation are essential. CAD files in Altium or KiCad are both fine, as long as Gerbers, pick-and-place, and BOM (with second-source parts) arrive in standard formats. If this scope is clear, jump straight into the schematic draft; I’ll supply the I/O count and enclosure dimensions as soon as we start.

Hi, I can design your industrial PLC hardware from functional specification through production-ready schematics, PCB layout, BOM, and manufacturing files. The best solution is to first review the I/O count, enclosure dimensions, field power requirements, isolation targets, analogue ranges, digital I/O levels, communication interfaces, and environmental constraints. Then I’ll design the 24 V input protection/power stage, isolated I/O channels, RS-485 Modbus interface, optional CAN/Ethernet, grounding, EMC protection, and complete the PCB with industrial DFM in mind. I’m comfortable with industrial PCB design, 24 V systems, isolated digital/analogue I/O, optocouplers, RS-485/Modbus, CAN, Ethernet, surge/ESD protection, industrial-temperature components, Altium/KiCad, test points, BOM second-sourcing, and manufacturing documentation. Deliverables will include: * Complete schematics * Optimized PCB layout * 24 V protection/power design * Isolated digital/analogue I/O * RS-485/Modbus interface * CAN/Ethernet option review * Pin map and test points * Industrial BOM with alternates * Gerbers and drill files * Pick-and-place files * Prototype test documentation I’ll focus on noise immunity, safe isolation, serviceability, and a production-ready design that is straightforward to validate on the first prototype. Best regards Ankit

efore starting the schematic, I would first define the I/O and isolation architecture, as these directly determine the power domains, protection and PCB isolation boundaries. I would first confirm: • Digital/analog I/O count and electrical ratings • Analog ranges (0–10 V, 4–20 mA, etc.) • Whether 500 V isolation refers to working voltage or withstand/test voltage • Required isolation between field I/O, logic and communications • MCU preference, if already selected • RS-485 requirements and whether CAN/Ethernet is required in Rev A • Enclosure dimensions and connector constraints For the 24 V industrial interface, I would focus on transient/reverse-polarity protection, isolated I/O, RS-485 protection/termination, grounding and return paths, creepage/clearance, decoupling and accessible test points. I work with Altium Designer and KiCad and can deliver editable schematic/PCB files, BOM with MPNs and alternatives, Gerbers, drill files, pick-and-place data and pin/test-point documentation. Once the I/O specification and mechanical constraints are provided, I can start with the power/isolation architecture and schematic.

This hardware-only scope covers complete schematics, an optimised PCB layout, an industrial-temperature component stack, and manufacturing files for the prototype build. The board set is specified to accept 24 V DC field power, expose isolated digital and analogue I/O, and provide Modbus-RTU over RS-485, with Ethernet or CAN added only if it fits the available footprint. Layout and part choice will follow the requirement to tolerate harsh electrical noise and to hold 500 V isolation on every opto-isolated channel. Acceptance for the first-run board is power-up, enumeration on the chosen bus, output toggling under bench test, and that isolation check. Pin maps and test points will be in the documentation so firmware work can begin after the hardware is proven. CAD can be Altium or KiCad, and the release pack will include Gerbers, pick-and-place, and a BOM with second-source parts. The schematic draft starts when the I/O count and enclosure dimensions are available.

We would be happy to design the complete industrial PLC hardware platform from your functional specification through a production-ready PCB package. We have extensive experience in industrial automation, PLC-related control hardware, 24 V field interfaces, isolated digital and analogue I/O, RS-485/Modbus, CAN/Ethernet integration, power conditioning, EMC/noise protection, industrial-temperature component selection, and PCB design for harsh electrical environments. We can prepare the full schematic architecture, isolation strategy, protected power input, I/O front ends, communication interfaces, test points, and component stack with second-source options. We can deliver native Altium or KiCad design files, Gerbers, drill files, pick-and-place, BOM, assembly drawings, pin maps, and bench-test documentation for prototype bring-up. The design will be developed specifically around your acceptance criteria, including reliable 24 V operation, isolated channel performance, clean bus enumeration, output switching tests, and 500 V isolation targets on the opto-isolated channels. Once you provide the final I/O count and enclosure constraints, we can move directly into schematic development and then optimize the layout for manufacturability, serviceability, and EMC robustness.

Your spec reads like a real factory-floor PLC: 24 V field power, opto-isolated I/O with a hard 500 V acceptance test, and Modbus-RTU as the baseline bus. I design this kind of hardware, and I can start the schematic draft as soon as you send the I/O count and enclosure dimensions. How I'd approach it Power entry: 24 V DC input with reverse-polarity protection, TVS and surge handling aimed at IEC 61000-4-5/-4-4 levels, an input filter, and a wide-input buck that tolerates normal 24 V field variation (roughly 18–32 V). Isolation: Each isolated domain gets its own isolated DC-DC supply and digital isolators or optocouplers. I'll set creepage and clearance well above 500 V so the hi-pot test passes with margin, with isolation barriers clearly marked on the layout. Digital I/O: Inputs will be IEC 61131-2 compliant (Type 1/3). Outputs will use protected high-side switches with short-circuit and inductive-load handling, plus status LEDs. Analogue I/O: 0–10 V and 4–20 mA inputs on an isolated ADC, with optional analogue outputs, input protection, and calibration test points. Comms: Isolated RS-485 for Modbus-RTU as the baseline. Isolated CAN and 10/100 Ethernet with an industrial-temp PHY and magnetics will be added if the footprint allows. I'll show you the area trade-off before committing. MCU: An industrial-temp (-40 to +85 °C) part such as the STM32F4/H7 family, with SWD, a boot strap, and a watchdog brought out.

Hi, I’m a hardware engineer working at i-mas in Barcelona, where I use PLCs in industrial machine projects. I’m also developing a custom CO₂ machine for a client, so your project is closely related to my current work. I work with Altium and KiCad and can provide the schematics, PCB layout, BOM with alternative components, manufacturing files, and documentation with pin maps and test points. Regarding laboratory testing, I’ll try to arrange access to suitable equipment, but I cannot promise this at this stage. If I cannot arrange it, prototype and isolation testing would need to be carried out on your side, with my remote support. Please share the functional specification, I/O count, and enclosure dimensions so I can review the requirements and start the schematic draft.
