I’m working on the concept and technical evaluation for a new digital platform called the Treuhand Dashboard. The platform will serve two organizations in the Swiss fiduciary education and association environment: STS and THS. The goal is to provide students, members, course participants, lecturers, and internal teams with a central access point for documents, course materials, membership information, invoices, and other relevant content. We are evaluating Nextcloud as the central file service for this platform. Nextcloud would primarily act as a backend or semi-headless file and knowledge layer, while the main user interaction would take place through a separate dashboard. For this setup, we are looking for a Nextcloud specialist who can support the development, integration, and long-term maintenance of custom Nextcloud apps or plugins. The main areas we would like to evaluate and potentially implement are: * Single Sign-On (SSO) integration with our existing Keycloak identity provider * Middleware integration, so that Nextcloud can communicate with our dashboard and internal systems * Event handling, for example when files are uploaded, changed, deleted, commented on, or tagged * Webhook or API-based communication from Nextcloud to the middleware * Metadata management for files and documents, such as categories, topics, course references, dates, language, document type, visibility, and target groups * Passing metadata and file information to the middleware via the public Nextcloud API * Support for role- and group-based access control, especially for students, course groups, members, lecturers, and internal backoffice users A key requirement is that documents should not only be organized through folder structures. They should also be searchable and filterable through structured metadata. This is important for the Treuhand Dashboard because different user groups need access to different documents depending on their role, membership, course participation, or organizational affiliation. Typical use cases include: * Course participants should only see documents relevant to their course or class * THS members should be able to access association documents, guidelines, templates, checklists, publications, and wiki content * Backoffice teams should be able to manage documents efficiently without maintaining the same information in multiple systems * The dashboard should be able to display documents based on metadata, permissions, and target groups * Future functionality such as full-text search and AI-assisted search should be supported by clean metadata and API structures The development should be based on the standard Nextcloud PHP/OCP app framework. Therefore, strong experience with Nextcloud’s server-side architecture, app development, app signing, APIs, events, background jobs, and version-to-version migration is important. After the first implementation, we would also be interested in long-term support to keep the apps secure, performant, and compatible with future Nextcloud releases. Clean code, unit tests, maintainability, and clear documentation are therefore important. Expected deliverables: * Production-ready source code for the required Nextcloud apps/plugins * Setup or deployment instructions for staging and production environments * Documentation covering configuration, API endpoints, event hooks, metadata structures, and integration logic * Inline comments where helpful for future maintenance * A short handover session so our technical team or hosting partner can deploy and maintain updates confidently We would review the implementation against the usual Nextcloud code quality checks, test the SSO integration with Keycloak, validate the event/webhook handling, and run functional tests for metadata transfer and dashboard integration. If this sounds like your area of expertise, we would be interested in discussing the possible approach, timeline, milestones, and effort estimation.
