This app is a digital audio sample player (drum machine, step sequencer) with a timeline based on the BPM, the number of beats-per-bar and a variable number of beat subdivisions.
skewmorphic steam punk clock.
6 track step sequencer with 72 sounds that looks and programs in a circular clock like motion.
A .program or .wav file can be saved or shared via social media
3 active screens, opening screen, programming screen and sound bank screen. 2 of these screens come as one image (PSD) that will work using zooming and various view ports with flyover screens for inputs
Simplicity - This is a proof-of-concept, with the intention of then commercialising in the next round. It should show the core concept as directly as possible without cluttering it with excessive secondary functionality.
This also covers limitations. Where possible, reasonable limits should be placed on user inputs so that the application doesn’t have to cater for every possible scenario.
Although the first version should only target one platform, multi-platform should be considered in the design from the beginning. This means using a development environment that caters for the major platforms (i.e. Unity or Xamarin)
Mobile First, Desktop Second
The primary audience for this application is the mobile or tablet market, so this should inform every aspect of the user interface and functionality.
No concept of saving, it just happens in the background (and is aware of hostile operating systems that close the application with little or no notice)
Touch-friendly - There should be nothing that requires a mouse or keyboard, with the exception of entering the Pattern Name (which should cater for mobile key entry)
Resource-friendly - The application should not consume so much system resources that it causes the operating system to close it more frequently than would be expected of any other normal application scenario
At its core this app is an audio step sequencer like that found in many audio software suites. Some examples are:
Fruity Loops - [login to view URL]
Ableton Live - [login to view URL]
Where it differs is in the concept of Compound Time Signature, which is a unique method of layering sub-divisions over a common length of time to give the composer incredible flexibility in creating unusual rhythms. It also allows the creation of time signatures that are not commonly found in western music and therefore are extremely difficult to reproduce in the current offering of step sequencers.
This version will require a minor of 4 decimal place loop [login to view URL] 0.0001 of a second up to 8 would be best
This app has as a much simpler functionality compared with Ableton or fruity loops more like a fancy metronome than a full recording suite.
The artwork, text and sounds are on a Dropbox waiting for a coder with musical mind to put together a solid backend program framework
