I handle a steady flow of legal briefs that must be brought into perfect compliance with our local jurisdiction’s formatting rules before filing. Each brief arrives in Microsoft Word, often straight from the drafter, and typically needs a combination of margin adjustments, page-number alignment, heading styles, automatic table of contents generation, and whatever other tweaks the court clerk might demand that day. Here is how we’ll work together • I upload the draft brief in Word along with the court’s style sheet or standing order. • You update the file so every rule—margins, font sizes, spacing, caption placement, footnotes, signature blocks—matches the local guidelines. • Cross-checks: ensure automatic page numbering carries through correctly, tables update in one click, and there are no stray manual breaks that could shift pagination. • Return the clean, fully formatted .docx ready for PDF conversion and e-filing. Because the briefs vary in length and complexity, I prefer an hourly arrangement. Turnaround is usually 24–48 hours, and faster when the court imposes a rush deadline. Consistent, court-ready formatting is the only metric that matters: if the clerk accepts the brief without a rejection notice, we’re good.
