I have a datalogger system, developed in C, on the basis of a Texas Instruments MSP430FRxxx series microcontroller which stores data to an SD card using the FATFS open source code.
I would like to integrate a Bluetooth (or Zigbee or cc2500) module to allow remote data retrieval from the datalogger in the field and to query the status of the datalogger and set control parameters.
The control unit could be to another MSP430 system with its own Bluetooth (or Zigbee or cc2500) module and a simple LCD screen and SD card, or possibly a mobile device such as an Android phone or tablet.
My prefered concept at this stage is to use a second MSP430FRxxx device as the control unit, which connects with dataloggers in range, requests files from them, and creates copies of those files on its own SD card. This would allow the same pcb to be used for the controller as the datalogger.
Deliverable is a pair of C code modules, one for the datalogger, one for the controller. Development hardware is to be any suitable MSP430FRxxxx LaunchPad Development Kit with an SD card holder and a radio module (Bluetooth/Zigbee/cc2500) attached via breadboard.
The controller C code module addresses an attached radio module via i2c to search for dataloggers in range, establishes a connection, requests a list of available data files, and downloads those files to its own SD card. It will also be able to request and set parameters on the datalogger.
The datalogger C code module will advertise its presence periodically, allow a connection, allow reading and setting of variables, present a single level directory listing of the SD card root level, and transmit requested files to the controller.
