I’m putting together a simple proof-of-concept: an XY plotter that uses stepper motors and a motor-driven cream / syringe head to write one predefined word on plain paper in four different sizes. The word and the sizes will be hard-coded for now; no live UI or font selection is needed. I just want to see smooth, accurate motion, clean cream extrusion, and clearly legible lettering in an “Elegant” style. Here’s what I need from you: • Mechanical design and parts list for the XY frame, rails, carriage, and syringe mount, all sized for an A4 sheet of paper. • Electronics schematic and firmware (Arduino + GRBL, or any open-source control stack you prefer) that drives two XY stepper motors plus a third actuator for the syringe. • G-code or equivalent motion file that traces the word in four distinct scales. • A short demo video showing the machine writing the word on paper, followed by source files and build instructions so I can replicate the setup at home. I’m working within a ₹10,000 envelope, so off-the-shelf parts, 3D-printed brackets, and open-source software are all fair game. If you can squeeze reliable results out of an even leaner BOM, all the better. Let’s keep the build as straightforward as possible while proving the core concept.

Hi there, I read your requirements carefully, and as an Mechatronics/Embedded Systems Engineer whose graduation project was a custom-built CNC Plotter / Drawing Machine, I am confident I can build this exact proof-of-concept for you efficiently and cost-effectively. Having already built a functional XY plotter, I understand the practical challenges of linear motion, GRBL controller setup, and precise toolhead control. Here is my proposed execution approach: Mechanical & Housing: I will design a streamlined, low-cost A4 frame utilizing 3D-printable mounts/brackets and off-the-shelf smooth rods/leadscrews to keep your BOM well under ₹10,000 INR. Electronics & Firmware: Configured Arduino + GRBL (or Marlin firmware) driving two XY NEMA 17 steppers and a dedicated motor-driven syringe actuator for precise cream extrusion with programmed retraction to prevent oozing. G-Code Generation: I will generate clean, pre-scaled motion files tracing your requested word in 4 distinct sizes in an elegant style. Deliverables: Complete 3D CAD/STL files, schematics, fully commented firmware/G-code, a clear demo video showing the machine operating, and step-by-step build documentation for easy assembly at home. I am ready to start immediately and look forward to discussing the project details with you! Best regards, Ali

Hello, I understand that you are looking to create a simple yet effective proof-of-concept for an XY plotter that utilizes stepper motors to write a predefined word on paper, while focusing on smooth motion and clean cream extrusion. Your goal is to achieve clear and elegant lettering in four different sizes, ensuring that the design remains efficient and cost-effective. To meet your requirements, I would propose a tailored solution that begins with a robust mechanical design for the XY frame and components, optimized for A4 paper. I will provide a detailed parts list that includes reliable off-the-shelf parts and 3D-printed brackets where necessary. Alongside the mechanical design, I will develop an electronics schematic and firmware using Arduino and GRBL or another open-source control stack to ensure precise operation of the stepper motors and syringe actuator. Additionally, I will generate G-code for the letter tracing in your specified sizes and create a short demo video to showcase the writing results, along with comprehensive source files and build instructions for your replication. Could you clarify if you have any specific preferences for the materials or components used in the build? https://www.freelancer.com/u/proggon Best regards, Wahaj Barlas.

Two things decide whether this proof of concept produces legible lettering, and neither is the XY motion. The motion is the easy part. The first is the font. An elegant script rendered as a normal outline font gives you a G-code path that traces the outline of each letter — so the dispenser draws around the shape and fills nothing, and it reads as a hollow mess. What you need is a single-stroke font, where each letter is one continuous centreline path. Hershey fonts are the standard open-source answer and Inkscape will generate the G-code directly. That single choice is the difference between clean handwriting and an unreadable blob. The second is extrusion lag. Cream does not start and stop when the motor does — it keeps oozing at the end of a stroke and takes a moment to build pressure at the start. Every letter needs a small lead-in and a retraction on lift, tuned to your cream's viscosity. Untuned, you get blobs at every stroke start and trailing tails between letters, which is how these builds fail on the first video. On control: GRBL runs the two axes, and the syringe drives off the spindle or laser output, which gives you speed control rather than only on and off. Within ₹10,000 for A4: aluminium extrusion or smooth rod with printed brackets, two NEMA 17s, a small stepper for the plunger, and an Arduino with a CNC shield. Tight but real. Tell me the word and your cream's consistency, and I will confirm the frame and the nozzle size.

Hi, I can build this XY plotter proof-of-concept around a compact A4 workspace, stepper-driven XY motion, and a motorized syringe/cream extruder. I’ll handle the mechanical design, off-the-shelf parts selection, 3D-printed mounts, electronics, firmware, and motion files needed to write the predefined word cleanly in four sizes with an elegant lettering style. I can keep the BOM within your ₹10,000 target by using readily available components and an open-source control stack such as Arduino/GRBL. I’ll provide the CAD/source files, wiring schematic, G-code, build instructions, and a short demonstration video showing the complete writing process. Question: Which exact word should the plotter write so I can design the lettering paths and four scales around it? Best regards
