I am using joomla and virtuemart.
Your job is to build the an import php page that runs the CSV file and keeps the category URLs and removes/adds new products or categories.
Our internal system uploads a CSV file for products/categories to the virtuemart web directory.
We can add a cron job that runs a .php page that imports the CSV file with the products and categories into virtuemart.
The CSV file is in a virtuemart friendly format.
the cron job will run once a day.
Products that have been removed from the new CSV file will need to be removed from the virtuemart product listings also.
Because we link to Virtuemart categories from external websites, We need to make sure the Categories URLs stay the same when a new CSV file is imported!
For example the category URL for the category name "Hammers" is
[url removed, login to view];category_id=139&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=37
When we import a new CSV file we need to make sure that the category URL remains the same for the category hammers, and new products from the new CSV file are added.
There is a more info txt file with more info
