Lock web browser (IE11) with JS - like alert() does

Here is a problem I'm having: fullscreen flash game is running in IE11 and I need to be able to "pause" it.

It's written in AS2 and I don't really want to use ExternalInterface.

By accident I found that alert() box causes the entire page to go dim and pause until alert box is closed.

I'm looking for way to do the same with js functions instead of alert box. Also I need it to function in IE11, don't mind other browsers compatibility.

You can test it with any SWF and alert() message.

Hi, how exactly you want to pause the game? Do you want to only avoid interaction with the game? maybe you can explain a bit better. Thanks
