I am looking to make some minor functionality changes to a template I am using for a live Twitter map. The template can be found here (along with “Documentation” link to all code files): [login to view URL]
The basic functionality of the map is pretty simple. It uses 2 keywords which are hard-coded in the html file which call a Javascript file ([login to view URL]) to make the twitter query and plot the locations of the tweets.
Here are the changes I am looking to have done:
• Make the template only 1 keyword search. Remove the 2nd keyword from the HTML file and Javascript file while leaving the basic map/plot functionality for the 1st keyword
• Add Keyword Search functionality. Instead of having the keyword that I want queried and plotted hard coded into the HTML file I should be able to enter the keyword in a search bar on the right panel. (details of where and how in full scope document that will be given)
• I have made one small change to the code already that I need further revisions to. In the Javascript file there is a section which outlines the parameters that are sent for the twitter query with their Search API. I have added the “since:” and “until:” parameters so that I can specify a date range that I want searched (code of my change below which works)
o The Twitter Search API only allows searches for up to 7 days ago. I would like to add a button to the main page right panel for each of the past 7 days that automatically replaces the “since:” and “until:” parameters to the corresponding days. This should be rolling. Here is what I mean by that:
If I am looking at the map on April 10th, 2013 there should be buttons for "Real Time" (current day), April 9th, April 8th, April 7th, April 6th, April 5th, April 4th, and April 3rd
If I am looking at the map a few days later on April 14th there will be buttons for "Real Time" (current day), April 13th, April 12th, April 11th, April 10th, April 9th, April 8th, and April 7rd
So the dates on the buttons, and the dates that are input into the [login to view URL] file, should change based on the day it is being looked at
o “[login to view URL]” Parameter code changed:
[login to view URL] = {
rpp: 100,
since: '2013-04-06',
until: '2013-04-08',
callback: 'callback',
result_type: 'recent',
};
One last thing that should be done with all of these changes. When I make a new search or change the dates I don’t want the entire page to load just the javascript to be refreshed and the new points plotted. I don’t want the map to refresh.
Overall the changes are relatively simple. I’m really looking to get these things out from being hardcoded so that changing keywords and dates is more seamless and flexible.
Let me help you complete your modifications on that live Twitter map.
You may need to pass me your modifications so far especially those related to the 'since' and 'until' parameters. Then I'll take it from there.
Your description is very thorough and I'm confident with your instructions and my skills, those JavaScript tweaks can be completed successfully.
