I am looking to have an extension designed which will allow me to bypass the Google Documents preview screen and load the document directly in a new tab in Firefox.
Typically if you use Google Documents and you left click on a non Google Formatted Document such as a PDF file or Word .DOC file Google Docs will automatically open a new tab and will use it's build-in viewer to open the document. From there if a user wants to download a local copy they have to go to File/Download and then select a local file folder and filename to save it.
For this reason here is how I would like the extension to work.
When a user left clicks on a document in Google Documents the extension will check the link for it's file type. If it is a PDF file then the extension will open that document in a new Firefox tab. As all of our machines have Adobe Reader already installed, if the extension is working correctly then the PDF file will open inside of the browser in a new tab using the Reader Plug-In and will be fully usable to the user.
As a hint I believe the correct syntax for downloading a document from Google Docs is:
[url removed, login to view] (File ID Here) &export=download
Ideally there should be no download dialog from Firefox when the document is downloaded nor any prompts to the user.
I will require a completed xpi package for the extension. It should be compatible with Firefox 7.0 or later. I will test it before approving the final distributable. I will also keep in very good contact with the winning bidder. This should take less than an hour or so for a seasoned programmer so bid accordingly. I often have several small projects to be done so the winner bidder may be invited to future projects if I am satisfied with their work.
