JavaScript Expert Needed to debug Volusion Store Navigation

Hello Javascript/Volusion Experts:

I have a simple debugging project for just the navigation element of a new template I designed for our Volusion store.

The following Volusion template was designed to update our current website:

[url removed, login to view]

The navigation was designed to look exactly like this example (once the homepage content were to be included via the Volusion CMS system):

[url removed, login to view]

As you can see, the code is pretty much done and ready for implementation, except that the navigation does not work as expected once the template is implemented on the Volusion platform.

I had made a custom navigation in Javascript/JQuery since the default CMS navigation provided by Volusion is not very flexible, its very hard to theme and animate via CSS/JS, and I felt it was not time-effective to take days to figure out how to hack their navigation to do exactly what I was envisioning a lightweight and elegant navigation should do.

I don't think this should be very hard to figure out, except that I manage many other design projects in the company and I don't have a lot of time to spend debugging. I am open minded for alternative solutions; I am OK with throwing away the current navigation JS and either have you theme the default CMS navigation from Volusion or use a different JS navigation code that works better, as long as you can make it look just like the template (it was done with pure CSS and simple <ul>'s ).

Here is a more detailed log of the problems that happen once the template is implemented:

- The navigation code somehow conficts with the Volusion CMS - I get the error shown on the attached picture on some of the admin pages as soon as I install the code.

- The URL's of the navigation get corrupted by Volusion by automatically adding a "category-s/" after the first time you click on them, no matter whether I use relative URL's or absolute ones (which seems bewildering to understand how an absolute url used on the <a href="http://..."> gets a "category-s/" concatenated... could it be that the navigation is getting modified because I chose a common div name of id="menu" that gets automatically changed by some obscure js code that automatically runs on the Volusion Shoping cart pages?

- The navigation jQuery animation is painfully slow on Internet Explorer below IE8 once the homepage slideshow is running. (I am okay with having you put an animation exception so that it does not run on IE8 and under if this effect is something unavoidable - the js homepage slideshow takes priority, and I rather have a simple show/hide and a painfully slow drop-down & fade effect)

Thank you so much for all your help. If you have any further questions about the code, let me know.
