Road Life Overview Road Life is a mobile app aimed at improving road safety for cyclists, walkers and drivers in rural Ireland. Users select their mode of transport and are shown danger zones and hazards along their route, while drivers can see when cyclists or walkers are on the road ahead via location tracking. The app will be free of charge with no subscriptions or payments required at launch, although this may be introduced at a later stage. Hazard data will be initially populated from a list provided by the RSA initially for the 26 counties of the Republic and be further refined by data collected directly from users. Core Features User Roles • Ability for the system to support two user roles: a global admin who can manage hazard data and app content, and a general user who participates as a road user. • Ability for general users to function both as a driver and as a cyclist or walker, selecting their current mode of transport as needed. • Ability for a user to be actively on a journey (sharing their location and receiving warnings) or passively observing the map to see if cyclists or walkers are on the road. Transport Selection • Ability for users to select their current mode of transport, such as cyclist, walker or driver, which determines the type of hazard information and warnings they receive and can log • Ability for users to switch between modes as needed, for example from driver to cyclist. Map Display • Ability for the app to display an interactive map using either a Google Maps or Mapbox integration; the choice is to be confirmed. • Ability for the app to overlay hazard data and user location information on the map. Hazard Zones • Ability for the app to display danger zones and areas of caution along routes on the map, including hazards such as potholes, accidents, road closures and challenging areas of passage for cyclists or walkers. • Ability for hazards to be categorised as either time-bound (temporary, such as an accident) or permanent (persistent, such as a consistently difficult corner). • Ability for time-bound hazards to have a defined lifespan after which they are no longer displayed, and the approach for setting and managing expiry durations is to be confirmed. • Ability for permanent hazards to remain visible on the map until manually removed or updated by an admin. Initial Data • Ability for the app to be initially populated with a list of known danger points for the Republic, as provided by the RSA. • Ability for the admin to import this initial and updated dataset, the format and import process is to be confirmed with the client. Presence Awareness • Ability for drivers using the app to see if there is a cyclist or walker on the road ahead of them via location tracking within the app. • Ability for the app to warn drivers to take caution when a cyclist or walker is detected ahead of the driver. • Ability for active road users who have opted in to share their approximate position, enabling this presence awareness feature. Global Admin • Ability for the global admin to manage hazard data, including creating, editing and removing both time-bound and permanent hazards. • Ability for the global admin to import the initial local authority hazard dataset and manage ongoing hazard content. • Ability for the global admin to access additional management capabilities, the full scope (for example, user management or moderation of user-submitted reports) is to be confirmed. Notifications • Ability for the app to deliver push notifications or in-app alerts to warn users of nearby hazards or the presence of cyclists and walkers ahead. User Reporting • Ability for general users to submit hazard reports (for example, a new pothole or road closure) from within the app, subject to admin review or moderation, to be confirmed whether this is required for the initial release. Offline Support • Ability for users to access saved hazard data and map information in areas with poor mobile coverage, given the rural setting, to be confirmed whether this is needed for the initial release.

Hi there, I understand you're building a real-time safety network for road users. Operationally, a user selects their mode (driver, cyclist, walker), starts a trip, and the app streams their location. It overlays relevant hazard data from an admin-managed database, but crucially, it also cross-references active user locations to proactively warn drivers when they are approaching opted-in cyclists or walkers, creating a live awareness layer. Technical approach: We'd use Flutter for a single-codebase cross-platform app. The backend would be a Node.js API using PostgreSQL with the PostGIS extension for efficient geospatial queries. Real-time location updates for the presence awareness feature will be handled via WebSockets, and the admin panel can be a simple React web app. Core modules: User & Mode Management; Live GPS Tracking & Broadcasting; Hazard Database Engine (with permanent/temporary types and expiry logic); a Proximity Detection System to trigger alerts; and an Admin Portal for data import and management. Relevant systems: We built "Road Rage," a GPS navigation app that monitors driving behavior using real-time location data and phone sensors to promote safer driving. It has a very similar technical foundation regarding live GPS tracking and on-road event handling. Our implementation strategy would focus on an MVP that validates the core safety loop: map display with initial RSA data and the live proximity alerts. User-submitted reports and advanced offline caching can be a fast follow in phase two. Regards, Rohit

❤️❤️❤️ Greetings ❤️❤️❤️ I have carefully reviewed your Road Life cross-platform Sat Nav project and this is a strong match for my Flutter, GPS, API, and real-time application experience. I am Ozgur Ozbas, a Full-Stack Mobile Developer with 10+ years of experience in Flutter, Android, iOS, Node.js, Laravel, REST APIs, Firebase, Google Maps, location services, and production mobile applications. I can build the cross-platform app with driver/cyclist/walker modes, interactive map and hazard overlays, temporary/permanent hazard management, live location sharing, proximity-based driver warnings, push notifications, and user hazard reporting. For the backend, I would recommend Node.js with PostgreSQL/PostGIS so nearby road users and hazards can be queried efficiently based on geographic position. The admin panel can manage RSA-imported hazard data, expiry rules, permanent hazards, and user reports. I would pay particular attention to background location permissions, battery usage, GPS accuracy, false proximity alerts, temporary hazard expiry, and unreliable rural connectivity. Offline caching can also be designed so the app remains useful where mobile coverage is poor. Q1. Have you already decided between Google Maps and Mapbox for the initial release? Q2. Is the RSA hazard dataset available now, and what format is it supplied in? Best regards, Ozgur Ozbas

--- Road Life – Rural Road Safety Mobile App --- I can help build Road Life for iOS and Android with location tracking, hazard mapping, and road-user alerts at the core. Here's my approach: → Build a cross-platform app with cyclist, walker, and driver modes. → Integrate Google Maps or Mapbox for hazard zones, routes, and live user locations. → Implement temporary/permanent hazards, admin management, RSA data import, and push alerts. → Add user reporting and offline map/hazard support if included in the MVP scope. Flow Select Transport Mode → Start Journey → Location Sharing → Hazard/Presence Detection → Alerts → End Journey Question Do you already have the RSA hazard dataset and preferred map provider, or should I include both in the technical planning? Let's connect... Thanks

Hi, I understand this project is not just another navigation app. The goal is creating a safety-focused platform where cyclists, walkers, and drivers can share road awareness through location tracking, hazard information, and timely warnings. I have experience building mobile applications, API-driven platforms, real-time features, and location-based solutions where performance, reliability, and user experience are critical. I would first define the MVP workflow around user roles, transport modes, hazard management, and location sharing. Then I would build the mobile application with a scalable backend for hazard data, user reporting, admin management, and notifications. I would also help evaluate Google Maps vs Mapbox based on cost, performance, and offline map requirements. The initial version would focus on a stable foundation: interactive maps, hazard overlays, user location awareness, admin tools, and reliable alerts. The architecture would be designed so future features such as expanded reporting, offline support, and additional safety services can be added without rebuilding. I can start with reviewing the RSA hazard data format and defining the best MVP approach before development begins.
