We are seeking a strongly credentialed Internet research and information-retrieval specialist to conduct a comprehensive analysis of publicly available Internet content concerning a discontinued consumer product/brand that was widely marketed approximately 25–35 years ago. The objective is to determine the volume and nature of current online discussion concerning the historical brand and product. Scope of Work The research will focus on two primary questions: Extent of continuing Internet discussion and recognition. Identify and quantify publicly available Internet and social-media references concerning the historical brand/product, including consumer recollections, discussions, nostalgia, product descriptions, images, advertising references, and interest in or requests for the product. Product-category associations. Analyze the collected references to determine the product category with which Internet users associate the historical brand and the frequency, if any, with which those discussions reference or associate the brand with a separate specified product category. The research should cover a broad range of publicly available sources, potentially including major search engines, Reddit, Facebook, YouTube, Quora, blogs, discussion forums, nostalgia sites, Internet archives and other relevant online sources. The researcher should develop and document a thorough search methodology, including search terms and Boolean strings, platforms and search engines searched, date ranges, inclusion/exclusion criteria, treatment of duplicate results, and methodology for categorizing results. Where feasible, the analysis should provide quantitative findings, including the total number of relevant references identified and the number and percentage falling within the applicable product categories. Deliverables The final deliverables should include: A written report describing the search methodology and findings. Quantitative results and categorization of the references identified. A comprehensive Excel or similar source log identifying each relevant result, source/platform, URL, date located, date of content where available, search query through which it was identified, and product-category classification. Supporting links, screenshots or other source documentation where appropriate. Qualifications Candidates should have: A Master’s degree or doctorate preferred in computer science, information science, data science, information retrieval, search technology, Internet/web analytics, digital forensics, or a closely related technical field. A substantial academic and/or professional experience demonstrating expertise in Internet searching, information retrieval, search-engine methodology, web research, online data collection, or social-media data analysis. Demonstrated experience conducting broad, systematic searches across multiple Internet platforms and sources. Experience collecting, organizing, deduplicating, classifying and quantitatively analyzing substantial numbers of Internet search results. Strong analytical and report-writing skills. Experience with advanced Boolean searching, search-engine research, social-media research, web scraping, Python-based data collection, Internet archives, or other methods for systematically identifying and analyzing large numbers of online references is particularly desirable. Published research, university teaching/research experience, or other significant professional credentials in information retrieval, Internet research or related technical fields are a plus but not a deal breaker. To Apply Please provide your experience or CV, highest academic degree, relevant research examples of comparable Internet-search, information-retrieval or large-scale web-research projects. Please also briefly describe how you would approach a project requiring a broad Internet search to identify and categorize online references to a particular historical consumer brand. The identity of the product and the specific comparison category will be provided to selected candidates.

Hello!, This is James from Hollywood... I read your post carefully, and the main pain point is clear: you need someone who can do more than “search the web.” You need a research specialist who can verify sources, separate signal from noise, and turn messy online data into reliable, usable findings. My approach is practical and structured: 1. Define the exact retrieval targets and success criteria 2. Use advanced search, scraping, and cross-verification 3. Organize findings into a clean dataset with source notes 4. Summarize the results so you can actually use them for decisions I’ve worked on research-heavy projects involving internet data extraction, due diligence, market mapping, and analysis pipelines, so I’m comfortable with both the technical and investigative side. I pay attention to details other people miss, especially when accuracy matters. Relevant examples: - Lead intelligence and company research tool for a B2B SaaS team - Public web monitoring system for a niche finance dashboard - Data extraction workflow for an e-commerce pricing analysis project - Source verification process for a compliance review Quick questions: 1. What’s the exact goal: lead discovery, competitive intelligence, verification, or something else? 2. Do you already have target sources, or should I help define them? 3.

Deeply compassionate approach for reconstructing online memory: I’ll build a rigorous, transparent search methodology to measure current recognition and ongoing discussion about the discontinued brand/product. The work will include advanced Boolean query design, platform-by-platform coverage (major search engines plus Reddit/Facebook/Quora/YouTube/blogs/forums/nostalgia sites and archives), and strict inclusion/exclusion rules to reduce noise and bias. I will collect, deduplicate, and log every qualifying reference in a structured Excel-style dataset (URL, platform, date found, original content date when available, query used, and category labels). Then I’ll quantify outcomes: total relevant references, percentages by product-category association, and frequency of brand-to-category linkages, supported by screenshots/archival evidence where appropriate. The final report will clearly document search terms, time windows, handling of duplicates, categorization rubric, and reproducibility so stakeholders can validate findings and interpret the results with confidence, honoring the historical significance of the consumer experience while producing defensible analytics.

The hardest part of this job is sifting through decades of archived web content and the sheer volume of social media noise to find relevant mentions of a discontinued product. I would approach this by first building a robust web scraping framework using Python and libraries like Beautiful Soup and Scrapy. This framework will be configured to crawl specific archives and social media platforms, looking for keywords related to the brand and product, also searching for related terms like "nostalgia" and "remember." I'd set up custom parsers to extract meaningful data points: dates of posts, sentiment of discussions, types of media shared (images, videos), and geographic origins if available. I would build the core scraping engine first, because that allows me to start gathering raw data as soon as possible, and then develop the analysis tools to process that data. What year should I prioritize for initial keyword refinement, the earliest mention of the product or its peak marketing period? I would finish the first day or two by having the primary scraping scripts operational and beginning to populate a database with initial search results, also setting up the basic structure for sentiment analysis. 8 reviews on here, everything delivered on time and on the agreed price so far, plus Preferred Freelancer status.

Hi, I’m an experienced Internet research and information-retrieval specialist with hands-on experience in advanced Boolean searching, Google/Bing operators, social-media research, web research, data collection, deduplication, categorization, and Python-assisted research workflows. For this project, I would build a systematic search methodology covering search engines, Reddit, Facebook, YouTube, Quora, forums, blogs, nostalgia communities, and Internet archives. I would create multiple query variations using exact brand terms, historical names, product descriptions, category associations, spelling variations, and exclusion operators. Every relevant reference would be recorded in a structured Excel source log with URL, platform, date located, available content date, search query, relevance, and category classification. I would then deduplicate the results, apply consistent inclusion/exclusion criteria, calculate totals and category percentages, and prepare a clear report documenting the methodology and findings. I’m comfortable handling large research datasets while maintaining traceability and consistency. I’d also clarify the geographic/language scope and intended use of the research before starting so the search methodology can be tailored appropriately.

Hi there, I went through your project description and understand you need a rigorous Internet research and information-retrieval study to measure current discussion, recognition, and product-category associations surrounding a discontinued consumer brand. I will build a documented search protocol covering Google and Bing, Reddit, YouTube, Quora, forums, blogs, nostalgia sites, social platforms, and Internet Archive sources. I will develop Boolean queries, phrase variants, historical terminology, date filters, and inclusion/exclusion rules, then systematically collect, deduplicate, and classify relevant references. Python with requests, BeautifulSoup, and pandas will support structured collection and analysis where technically and legally appropriate, while Excel will maintain the auditable source log. I will quantify relevant references by category, calculate percentages, preserve source URLs and discovery queries, and provide screenshots or supporting evidence where appropriate. The final report will clearly document methodology, limitations, findings, and reproducibility. Within 24-48 hours of award, I will share a project blueprint covering search architecture, query strategy, classification framework, and reporting structure. Will you provide the comparison category upfront with the brand, or should I establish the classification framework after reviewing the initial search results? Let’s start with a methodical, defensible research process. Kind regards, Imran Ali

Hello, A study like this lives or dies on reproducibility — whoever reviews it must be able to re-run your queries and reach the same set. That's how I'd build it. Method: • Documented search protocol before collection begins: Boolean strings, platform list, date ranges, inclusion and exclusion criteria, all fixed in advance rather than adjusted as results come in • Python-based collection across search engines, Reddit, YouTube, Quora, forums and Internet Archive, using official APIs and public endpoints where available and respecting each platform's terms. Systematic coverage rather than sampling, which is the difference between "we found some references" and a defensible count • Deduplication on normalised URL and content hash — the same nostalgia post gets syndicated across a dozen aggregators, and counting it once matters when the number is the finding • Classification into product categories with a written codebook, so the coding rules are auditable. I'd hand-code a sample first, fix the rules, then apply consistently • Quantitative output: reference counts by platform, by year, by category, with association frequency between the brand and the specified category Deliverables: written report on methodology and findings; the quantitative results; a complete source log in Excel — result, platform, URL, date located, content date, the query that surfaced it, category classification; screenshots for key references.

Hi, The key to this project is making the research systematic and reproducible rather than relying on a few search-engine results. I’d build a documented search strategy across search engines, Reddit, forums, social platforms, archives and relevant websites, then collect, deduplicate and classify each relevant reference. Python can help organize larger result sets, while the final Excel log would preserve the source, query, date and category for every included result. I have 13+ years of experience in software, data analysis, web research, automation, scraping and information-processing workflows. I’m comfortable turning large, messy web data into structured datasets and clear quantitative findings. I can also document the methodology and provide a concise report that makes the conclusions easy to audit. I’d be happy to discuss the product and comparison category once shortlisted. Let's connect and get started soon. Best regards, Binaya T.
