Our startup is launching its first Kickstarter campaign to promote (and raise funding) for a new software application we've spent the past 10 months developing. The campaign is approved and ready to go live, but we now need promotional assistance to drive potential backers to our campaign. We need someone to help us get the word out to our target audience, and we need a quick ramp up.
There are a lot of people offering to promote Kickstarter campaigns, but our software is very specific: it targets users of Microsoft Excel running on Windows (it also targets Windows desktop application developers, but that's a smaller niche). Our software is an add-in to Excel, so for someone to be interested in our campaign, they need to be a user of Excel.
For this reason, our objective is to promote our campaign to Excel users specifically, not to some arbitrary audience. There are a lot of people who have offered to promote our campaign to 100s of thousands (even millions) of followers, but if it's the wrong audience it's pointless. We need to make sure we're targeting primarily users of Excel running on Windows.
Excel represents a market of over 350 million users worldwide. There's a LinkedIn Excel group with 100,000 followers, and several FB Excel groups. And we're sure there are many other social media channels that can efficiently reach large blocks of Excel users. But we need an expert who can help us identify and target those channels successfully.
We want to hit every possible channel that targets Excel users, as well as PR to tech blogs, magazines and news sites/aggregators that would likely have a significant base of Excel users. We would specifically be targeting Excel users in technical fields, science, engineering, research, education (K12 and college) and financial analysis.
We have a presence on LInkedIn, FB, Google+ and YouTube, as well as the Kickstarter campaign page and our Web site. The campaign is not yet live, but it's approved and ready to launch any time. We can send you a link to a preview so you can get a better idea of the product and the target audience. Our primary goal is to drive traffic to the campaign; our secondary goal is to expand our company's LinkedIn connections, FB friends and YouTube channel subscribers.
But the Kickstarter campaign is the number one priority. A successful bid needs to tell us how they will reach Excel users and the broader Excel community... forums, SM groups, blog and tech reviews, PR.. we need to understand how you can target Excel users. We've already had dozens of offers to help us promote to generic users, generic news sites, etc. But we need a much more targeted campaign.
We want to start this with a relatively low budget, to see if it gains traction. If it does, we'll expand the budget accordingly. This is a long-term project, beyond just this campaign. If the campaign is successful we have a three-year roadmap outlining updates, upgrades, new features, etc. for this software. So the budget will grow accordingly.
One note.. we WILL NOT pay for reviews, spam or bogus backers. We believe in our software and our campaign, and that if we can get our message out to the Excel community successfully and honestly, our software will sell itself. Thanks!
