-This project will require familiarity with a software called SPSS. Using SPSS download any dataset that can be used on SPSS (ATUS,BFRSS,PUMS, etc. if you need one I can email you one) and then test a hypothesis of your choice.
-I would like for you to try to follow what the following article has done "[[url removed, login to view]]". The article has tested a correlation of young females and media usage and obesity. It does not have to be followed in every step though. You can choose another hypothesis to test of course. (Some sort of hypothesis, and then support your hypothesis with statistical evidence)
-I will need to have a 4-5 paged written analysis (size 12 font, double-spaced) of your hypothesis and your findings. The first page should be an introduction including the key interesting results and why they are interesting.
-The following pages should include the statistical data described and their meaning (do NOT paste the SPSS output to the paper). Compare your findings with the article that I've attached above (or with another economic article if you choose to do another hypothesis) You should use graphs, means, simple regressions, and complicated regressions to support your hypothesis.
-Describe the papers you've read that also look at this topic. Explain the differences among the results found in different previous studies. You can point out challenges that remain (even if your project doesn't solve them all). Do different authors come to different conclusions? Why might this be? Are their regressions valid (e.g. do they take adequate account of endogeneity issues)? These should be academic papers - serious studies not newspaper accounts. You can cite a newspaper to indicate why the result is interesting.
