I have this expression (IIF(LTRIM(RTRIM(SUBSTR(HEADER_INFO,2,13)))='',NULL,LTRIM(RTRIM(SUBSTR(HEADER_INFO,2,13))))) for the sample data below, but it is failing when it finds more than one D records after the H record. My goal is to have an expression that if it sees multiple D records after the H record, it reads those records as well, and if only one D record, it reads that record and move to the next H record. Right now, it is failing because it is expecting an H record after each D record, but there are situations as shown below where there are more than one D records after an H record. Hi, I am interested to help solve this issue. Nothing seems wrong with the expression and it should work perfectly fine whether column HEADER_INFO has record starting with D or H; unless the H records are shorter length than specified in SUBSTR function. Could you send the error message and show that part of code where it expects an H record after each D. Awaiting your reply.

Is there any other data between these H and D records?Because as far as i can see from the example,every line is being processed with LTRIM(RTRIM(SUBSTR(HEADER_INFO,2,13))). I have worked with PC and i have tried the expression.

this expression is for extracting 13 chars, I believe your requirement is to extract that number or ID, if you can explain little about this like what exactly is your requirements I can provide the optimal solution. as per my understanding IIF doesn't work effectively, Regex would be a good option for this kind of requirements .. let me know if you want to have a quick discussion.
