My name is Noeleen Smith and among other things, I am a wife and mother to three beautiful kids.
My son Ríordan, aged 7 and my daughter Aoibhinn, aged 5, are both on the autism spectrum.
I am all about autism awareness and encouraging people to accept and embrace each other's differences. I think it is absolutely vital that we teach our young children that friendships come in all shapes and sizes, to look past the fact that a child may appear ‘different’ and take the time and patience to get to know him or her.
This was why I decided to write a book, which I hope can be beautifully illustrated to appeal to children. My children are avid readers of children's books and my guilty pleasure is definitely buying them too many! They have hundreds of them!
I have written the story in the form of a poem. There are so many beautiful books out there, sharing an important message, like Giraffes Can't Dance by Giles Andreae or My Alien and Me, by Smriti Prasadam-Halls and Tom McLaughlin. However, I chose to get fairly to the point in my approach, so that young readers would know exactly what I'm trying to get across.
I would very much appreciate your feedback and to know if this is a project you would like to work on with me?
