Proposal for Book Covers for New Cozy Mystery Series
To Whom It May Concern:
I am a self-published author who has published five books using pre-made book covers. However, I am creating a new cozy mystery series and want all the book covers for the series to have cohesiveness. I want my readers to know by the book cover that the book is part of the series. I have found nothing in pre-made covers that meets this need as I want my covers to be illustrated.
These cozy mysteries take place in a fictional small mid-western town that I have created. I need an illustrator that can see my vision and create the type of cover I need. I do not want the cover to look like a photograph or a painting, but rather more like an illustrated scene that depicts the book. I want it colorful and contain small details.
Here is a quick vision of what I want my first cover to look like. It has a Victorian B&B sitting among the trees on a city lot. The house has two main stories, with an attic area and a three-story tower. There is a wide porch that runs the entire length of the front of the house. The porch has railings along the front and a brick walk that leads to the sidewalk out front. The lawn and sidewalk are separated by a low stone wall. There is a sign on the front lawn that says, Delaney B&B. It is spring-time so the trees are in full bloom and the grass is green, and the sky is blue.
I want a cover that is very colorful and bright, because cozy mysteries are colorful and bright. I am looking for an artist who, if he/she delivers want I am visioning for this first book, can replicate the look for the other seven books of the series. I want them unique enough that my readers can recognize the series by the book covers. The title of this first book is, Murder at Delaney House.
I am not an artist but have attached a rough drawing of how I picture the cover for the first novel. One last thought, I want a signature detail on each cover that depicts a group that is prominent in all the novels, The Silver Needle Quilters. I was thinking of sneaking in a quilt somewhere on the cover. It could be hanging over the house’s railing in this first cover.
Thank you for considering my proposal and I look forward to hearing from you.
