Job Description:
I am currently scripting a story with the working title of “The Matriarch” it’s a space western with a female lead going against a crime syndicate that’s well connected within the galaxy. This will be a one-shot comic with roughly 20-24 interior pages and if it goes well, it may lead to subsequent issues.
I am looking to create this one shot within 18 months (ideally faster but not slower) once the issue is 75% complete a Kickstarter will be held and funds from that Kickstarter will be used to earn back the expense of art.
I need an artist to do all the interior art and cover art for the comic.
I would like to get started on the project at the latest by the end of January but sooner is always better. Full disclosure – I started the script this month and have completed only 6 pages of the script as of right now.
I am looking to spend roughly $85 a page and $125 per cover – however, I am up to negotiation on that based on speed, quality, and overall experience of the artist.
Using the above $85 a page (however, these can adjust based on negotiated prices) I have 3 payment options the artist can choose between:
1) Payment per completed page (pencils, inks, colors) - $85
2) Payment per completed process on a page - $28 per pencil, $28 per ink, $28 per color (rounded these for easier explanation)
3) Payment per every 5 completed pages - $425
I would want to meet virtually or over the phone every other week to discuss progress, questions on the script, and any other roadblocks we may be having.
I also require an agreement to be signed. While some aspects of the agreement can be negotiated, my standard is that the artists have full rights to sell any of the art used to create the story after the completion of the project, however, the story, characters, and issue all belong to me. I allow the artist to sell anything they created for the story for their own profit but they cannot alter the story in any way and sell that.
