Ducted systems in residential properties look straightforward on paper but rarely are in practice, existing ductwork is often undersized, poorly routed, or simply not worth keeping. Getting the assessment right before a single component is ordered saves time, money, and a lot of revisiting. I'm a Mechanical Design Engineer and ASHRAE Member with hands-on experience across HVAC system design and installation projects. I'm London-based and work regularly with a qualified HVAC installer covering Luton and the surrounding areas. How we'd approach this: 1- Conduct an initial site survey to assess the property layout and existing ductwork condition 2- Calculate the correct system sizing based on room volumes and heat load 3- Identify which existing ductwork is serviceable and what needs replacing or rerouting 4- Design the distribution layout to ensure balanced airflow across all five or six rooms 5- Select equipment that meets current UK building regulations and Part L requirements 6- Install the ducted system with clean, tidy duct runs and minimal disruption to the property 7- Provide documentation including system specs and maintenance guidance Undersized or poorly balanced ducted systems are one of the most common complaints after installation.
