I live in an American heavy expat community. There are many expat owns businesses in the area that offer goods and services catering to expats but there is not single portal for these businesses to let people know their daily specials, local events, ect. I would like to create a very simple website where anyone can post one or more events on a virtual calendar so the community as a whole has a resource to check for local events. I would like the landing homepage to be the specific date the site is accessed and the events for that day show in a simple list of links that the user can then select to get more information. It would be nice if there was the option for other local communities to add their towns as well. Although the home page shows the specific day, I would like people to be able to look at a week or month or another days events as well.
Basically, I want a website that as soon as you open the site, you have a list of specials and events that are being offered on that specific day.
So there would be a header, (June 1st, Cuenca Ecuador) for example, and then nicely designed list of things happening "Lunch specials 2x1 Oatmouth Cafe"
Maybe there would be an icon next to the event that a user could sort by (click on the icon and it would sort all events by icon type)
If the user sees an event that they want to read more about, they click on the event they are interested in and it would pull up a new page that shows all the details about the event (where, when, website, cost, ect.) They could then either “go back” or “see other lunch specials”.
There should also be a calendar option on the home screen so users could click on other days and see upcoming events as if they were accessing the page on that day. If they do choose to look at a day in the future, there would need to be a button added under the date that says something like “go to today’s date” so there is no confusion.
Local businesses can input their specials when ever they want either by logging in (for repeat users so they don't have to keep reentering their info, address, directions ect.) or via one time use.. it would not cost anything to post events, now or in the future..so the local symphony could put their entire season in at once if they wanted to do so and every day there is a concert, that concert would show on the home screen. Perhaps in the future, if the site is used by the community, I could charge by ad or sell the top spot or top 5 spots, or whatever.
I would like the design to be very simple, maybe a banner photo across the top but nothing too flashy, I am thinking Craigslist sort of thing and I would like an option on the home page for users in other towns to request a similar site for their town, but for the time being, it will only be in the town I live in.
The poster needs to be able to cancel a post so I want an email verification and email edit and email delete just like a classified website has. I will need to moderate the site so I need to have the goals clearly defined and a disclosure page that tells people at the time they decide to post, what the goals of the site are and that a moderator may choose to remove the post if it is an abuse of the service.
