I am producing a film that looks at projects in three different places in the American West. We are interested in creating three short video clips that begins with the larger geographical context (across a few states with borders, or showing the majority of the American West) and zooming into these specific places in a 5-7 second clip. We are looking for a more artistic look than technical, i.e. not Google Earth looking would be ideal. 3D is not necessary, but won't be ruled out. We'd rather not use a lot of budget on it as funds are limited, but we won't rule out more creative, and therefore more expensive options. There is a location in Montana, Washington, and Colorado.
Each map will serve as a lead-in to one of the sections of the film.
Our vision for these maps is as follows: We'd like to start with a watercolor style map showing the Western US (with visual clues as to what we are looking at (Pacific Ocean, international and state borders, rivers and major cities) with each site pinpointed with a subtle marker, => the segment marker that we are exploring is highlighted (it brightens, enlarges, changes form or color, etc) and the watercolor map starts to push (zoom) in to that location => as we get closer to the location and geographic (topographic) detail would become discernable, the watercolor map fades into a satellite image that shows topographical detail => as we get down to near ground level the satellite image starts to level out and “fly” (so that we are not just going straight in) and then fades into our aerial clips which run until the segment starts. We would need to have each zoom of the satellite image adjust its bearing (direction of travel) as it begins to “fly” so that it would match the bearing of the aerial shots that we will be using. Each map sequence would start with the same template but would then zoom into each individual project area.

I provide satellite imagery and zooms to video production companies, broadcast networks and film studios around the world...and have been doing this since 2001. Many examples are on my webpage.
