Project: Build a professional-grade, offline-first mobile application for commercial drone operators (Part 107) focused on pre-flight preparation, flight logging, compliance management, maintenance tracking, and safety reporting. Company: Seneca Safety Partners App Name: LineChief Tagline: Reliable safety and compliance support on the flight line and in the field. Project Vision & Positioning LineChief is a calm, professional, high-trust mobile application designed to serve as the daily “wingman” for serious commercial drone pilots, small drone service companies, inspection teams, and aviation maintenance professionals. It prioritizes operational discipline, audit-ready record keeping, and risk reduction over flashy features or heavy data visualization. The app must feel precise, reliable, and built by people who understand real-world field operations, not another generic productivity tool. A high-fidelity, fully functional HTML prototype already exists and serves as the primary reference for UX, workflows, data models, and interaction patterns. The production app must match or exceed the clarity, professionalism, and usability demonstrated in the prototype. Target Users • Part 107 Remote Pilots (individuals and small teams) • Drone service companies (3–25 pilots) • Infrastructure inspection, construction, agriculture, and public safety operators • Aviation maintenance professionals and crew chiefs who manage drone fleets These users value reliability, offline capability, clean records, and reduced administrative burden far more than advanced mapping or AI features. Core Features (MVP Scope) Must-have for MVP: 1. Pre-Flight Preparation • Multiple customizable checklist templates (Part 107 Standard, Infrastructure, Agriculture, etc.) • Risk-level tagging (High/Med/Low) with visual indicators • Per-item notes and custom item creation • Progress tracking and completion validation • One-tap transition from completed checklist into flight logging 2. Flight Logging • Structured entry for date, times, location, purpose, aircraft, weather, duration, and notes • Photo attachment with preview and basic organization • Full history with search/filter and detail views • Professional PDF export of individual logs and full logbook 3. Compliance Dashboard • Remote Pilot Certificate tracking (issuance, expiration, status) • Recurrent training tracking • Waiver management (add, edit, expiration alerts) • Overall readiness/compliance score calculation 4. Maintenance Logbook & Guidelines • Per-aircraft maintenance event logging (component, work performed, hours, technician, notes, next due) • Automatic updating of aircraft last/next maintenance dates • Manufacturer-specific maintenance guidelines (DJI Mavic 3 Enterprise, Autel Evo II, and extensible to others) • Full maintenance history view with PDF export 5. Safety Reporting • Structured incident / near-miss / observation reporting • Severity rating, contributing factors, immediate actions, and photo support • Local history of submitted reports 6. Offline-First Architecture • Full functionality with no network connection • Local data persistence with reliable background sync when online • Clear sync status and conflict handling Important: The app must feel native, fast, and trustworthy on mid-range Android and iOS devices commonly used in the field. Technical & Architectural Requirements We are looking for a developer (or small team) who thinks in terms of production-grade, maintainable systems rather than quick prototypes. Core Technical Expectations: • Architecture: Local-first / offline-first design with a clear sync strategy. We prefer a solution that keeps the user fully functional offline while maintaining data integrity. • Data Integrity: Strong emphasis on auditability. Records (especially maintenance and flight logs) must be difficult to corrupt or lose. • PDF Generation: High-quality, professional PDF exports for flight logs, full logbooks, checklists, and maintenance records. Layouts must be clean, branded, and suitable for audits/insurance. • Performance & Reliability: Smooth performance on mid-range devices. Thoughtful handling of large numbers of logs and maintenance records over time. • Security & Privacy: User data (especially compliance and maintenance records) is sensitive. Proper local encryption, secure auth, and responsible cloud sync design required. • Accessibility: One-handed friendly, large touch targets, screen reader support, high contrast. • Code Quality: Clean architecture, clear separation of concerns, comprehensive testing (unit + integration where valuable), and maintainable codebase. Suggested Modern Stack (we are open to strong alternatives with justification): • Frontend: React Native (Expo or bare workflow) or Flutter • Local Database + Sync: WatermelonDB, SQLite + custom sync layer, or equivalent robust offline solution • State Management: Zustand or Redux Toolkit + TanStack Query (or equivalent) • Backend / Auth / Sync (if cloud component is used): Supabase, Firebase, or custom Node.js/NestJS + PostgreSQL • PDF: Libraries capable of generating clean, multi-page professional documents • Forms & Validation: Strong form handling with good UX We expect clear reasoning behind technology choices, especially around offline/sync strategy. Design & Experience Standards • High-contrast dark mode as default (professional aviation aesthetic) • Calm, factual, and empowering language — never overly motivational or interrogative • Consistent with the existing prototype’s tone and visual language • Excellent attention to detail on forms, lists, modals, and empty states • Thoughtful handling of edge cases (no data, sync failures, long notes, etc.) The prototype should be treated as the primary source of truth for user flows and interaction patterns. Non-Functional & Future Considerations • The architecture should support future expansion into: • Team/organization features • API access for integrations • Deeper manufacturer telemetry import • BVLOS-related logging and reporting features • Data export capabilities (JSON + PDF) are important for user trust and portability. Deliverables • Fully functional iOS and Android applications (TestFlight + Google Play internal testing) • Admin/backend (if applicable) for user management and data • Clean, well-documented codebase • Setup instructions and basic developer documentation • Handover session + support period Who We Are Looking For We are only interested in working with developers or small teams who: • Have shipped production mobile applications (especially offline-first or data-heavy apps) • Understand the importance of data integrity and auditability • Can think through real-world field constraints (connectivity, device performance, user attention) • Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code • Can clearly articulate architectural decisions • Have experience with professional PDF generation or complex form/reporting workflows • Are comfortable working from a detailed prototype and specification rather than vague requirements Junior developers or teams primarily focused on simple CRUD apps or marketing websites will not be a good fit. How to Apply Please submit a proposal that includes: 1. A brief overview of your relevant experience (especially offline/sync, data integrity, or compliance/operations tools). 2. Your recommended technical approach and stack, with reasoning (particularly around offline capabilities and PDF generation). 3. Estimated timeline and high-level milestone breakdown for MVP delivery. 4. Any questions or clarifications you have about scope, architecture, or priorities. 5. Links to 1–2 relevant past projects (GitHub or live apps preferred). We value clarity, professionalism, and thoughtful questions over generic proposals.
