We have an Educational software package created in 1993 that runs on DOS (but can run ok in Windows Vista and earlier). It also runs well in DOSBox.
The goal of this job is to either convert or re-do the lessons in Flash so that they function and behave exactly as in the old version. The graphics and simple animations (based on 640x480) are to remain exactly the same, and can be taken from the old application using screen-grabbing or whatever technique(s) you discover. (This will significantly reduce the work load and ambiguity!)
Each Lesson (corresponding to separate folder names in the original software distribution), must be exportable as its own independent Flash “swf” so that later we can integrate them into a web site. Each set of menus must be delivered as exportable to “swf”.
The DOS version uses the PC-speaker to create little sound effects. These sounds must be recreated to sound similar, and the application given a little speaker symbol in a corner which can be toggled as enabled/disabled by a mouse click.
There are approximately 135 lessons. Each lesson has 1-5 parts such as “Component Description” and “Laboratory Simulation”, etc. Each part contains a number of “slides” or “next states”. Each “next state” add/changes some text, part of an image, and/or does a simple animation. (See screenshots)
Some lessons include a “quiz” part. The first slide of every quiz asks the user to input a student ID. For your delivery, skip this input. (We will add the user grade storing and retrieving capabilities after you deliver the project). However, you must be able to display the “grade” for each quiz by summing up the correct answers just as the original software does. In the demo application provided, enter a “student id” of “eki123” to access the quizzes.
The exported swf's must be resizable to allow the original 640x480 graphics to be scaled to larger resolutions. (Flash may already do this)
The project you deliver to us must include all source code and any media required for us to extend and/or change the project using commercial Adobe software. Included with the completed project must be a written guarantee that “EKI” will hold copyright to all of this work and that you will not sell, give, or provide any of this content to another party.
Included in the zip attachement is the DEMO version of the application. This will give you a good feel for the scope of the work required. Contact us to get the full version which includes all the lessons if you need it to do a more accurate bid estimate.

To run the demo application: (Does not include all modules – mostly only “EDL3” of [url removed, login to view] I)
In Windows Vista or earlier, the zip file must be extract to the root of a drive. (The batch files only work that way). Then run the [url removed, login to view] file in X:\ekiprep\[url removed, login to view] (Where X is any drive letter).
To run the demo application in DOSBOX:
Extract the zip file to something like C:\tomount. Run DOSBox and type “mount c c:\tomount\” and hit enter. Now switch to the C drive by typing “C:” and hit enter. The drive should now have an ekiprep folder (visible by typing the command "dir"). Change to that folder by typing “cd ekiprep”, and then run “[url removed, login to view]”.
Since this is such a lengthly project (not really a difficult one), we plan to pay you for a first milestone conversion of just a few lessons. If the quality and efficiency of your work is sufficient, we can pay to have the rest of the lessons converted. Bid based on your estimate to complete all of the lessons.
