Hi! I'm Brian, age 22, college student at URI. I'm a big movie guy, and a science fiction fan especially. When it comes to Halloween, comic conventions, and events like that, my costumes have usually been "what's lying around my house?" creations, or "what's at the dollar store" ensembles. Usually a penny-pincher, I have decided to create an awesome HIGH-quality outfit (the word costume connotates cheapness, I want this to come out great) based on my favorite movie, that I can have and wear for the rest of my life and look legitimate.
The outfit is based on the 1999 movie The Matrix. I have been able to find most of what I need for the outfit, but for the life of me I cannot find, ANYWHERE, the most important part of the outfit...a lightweight, floor-length black trenchcoat. It is not elaborate, rather a pretty simple piece of clothing; but it appears that the 90's styles are out and nobody manufactures products even close to what I need. I have looked at every replica company and trenchoat company and military surplus store I can find, but I still can't find what I need. And, if I have to drop some money on this, I don't want to settle for anything shabby.
So, I need to find someone who is capable of creating a custom, tailored piece of clothing for me, that fits properly and looks like what's in the movie. I have visited a local tailor's shop, and the guy knows what he is doing; the price he pitched a charge of around $475 for the project. I understand that for quality I must pay a higher price, but if there is anyone local I can find who: has excellent tailoring skills, can create this outfit for me by Oct 25, 27 at the latest, and that would be willing to beat this offer by a decent amount. If this can be done, I would consider taking the work to someone else.
I have a collection of movie clips, videos, images, behind-the-scenes, and costume-designer commentary that shows what I need. I have already picked out the fabrics I need. Anyone interested who can get this done for me, please let me know ASAP. Because I'd prefer to have the costume done soon, I need to have offers in today, after which I will have to resort to the tailor I've already talked to. Not in-confident with him at all, just looking to save some money without sacrificing quality.
