Structural Engineer (Florida PE) – Engineer of Record for Large Industrial Steel Building Project Overview We are seeking an experienced Florida-licensed Structural Engineer (PE) or structural engineering firm to serve as the Engineer of Record for a large industrial steel building that will be fabricated overseas. The selected engineer will develop the complete structural design and sealed construction documents in accordance with the Florida Building Code and applicable standards. After completion of the initial structural design, the selected overseas steel manufacturer will review the design and may propose revisions to improve manufacturing efficiency, reduce cost, simplify fabrication, or substitute equivalent structural materials commonly used in international steel fabrication. The Florida Engineer of Record will review all proposed revisions and determine whether they comply with the project requirements and Florida code before incorporating any accepted changes into the final sealed documents. The intent is to optimize manufacturing costs while maintaining full Florida code compliance. The Structural Engineer will own the Steel building engineering through the foundation. The Civil Engineering is complete and a Site Development Permit has already been issued. The Architectural and MEP drawings are completed also. Project Description Approximately: 40,000 SF enclosed steel industrial building Approximate dimensions: 100' × 400' Approximately 70-foot overall height Attached 10,000 SF open steel storage structure Attached 3,000 SF reinforced CMU office One integrated building Building includes: One 30-ton overhead bridge crane One 10-ton overhead bridge crane Approximately 80-foot crane spans Integrated crane runway system Large industrial overhead doors Heavy equipment loading Engineering Scope The selected engineer will provide the complete structural engineering including: Structural design Structural calculations Steel member sizing Connection design Crane runway design Crane loading analysis Lateral and longitudinal crane forces Column reactions and load transfer through foundation Foundation design (or review of manufacturer foundation design using calculated reactions) Anchor bolt design Roof framing Wall framing Bracing CMU office structural design Wind design Sealed structural drawings Permit support Plan review responses Design Criteria The building will be designed in accordance with: Current Florida Building Code ASCE 7 AISC AWS MBMA (where applicable) ACI Applicable Florida Product Approval requirements The Owner desires a slightly over-engineered structure capable of approximately 190 MPH Ultimate Wind Speed (subject to engineer review and governing code requirements). Collaboration with Overseas Manufacturer After the initial structural design is completed, the selected steel manufacturer will review the design and may recommend: More economical framing layouts Alternate member sizes Equivalent steel grades Different connection details Fabrication improvements Material substitutions Manufacturing efficiencies Shipping efficiencies Assembly improvements The Engineer of Record will evaluate all proposed revisions and approve only those that satisfy Florida code requirements and project performance criteria. We are seeking a long-term engineering relationship for future projects.
