The task is to design a compact PCB that drops straight into an SCX 1/32 car so it can run on a digital track. I want the board to read the track’s reed-sensor signal, let me assign any of 20 unique car IDs in firmware, and expose a surface-mount USB-C port on the edge for easy flashing once the body shell is back on. Size must stay close to the original analogue board footprint (about 24 × 18 mm, height under 6 mm) but I can adapt mounting holes or connector positions if you have a cleaner layout idea. Power comes from the standard track pickups (nominal 14–18 V DC), so include an efficient buck or LDO to feed the microcontroller and reed circuitry. I haven’t locked the MCU yet; pick anything small, inexpensive, and easy to program—ATmega, STM32, ESP32, or similar—so long as it supports a simple bootloader I can reach over USB-C. Deliverables • Schematic • PCB layout and Gerbers (KiCad or Altium) • Drill files, pick-and-place, and full BOM with distributor part numbers • Minimal firmware that recognises reed input, stores/changes up to 20 IDs, and shows how to reflash through the USB-C port • Brief build and programming guide Acceptance criteria: design passes DRC; USB-C enumerates and lets me update firmware; ID selection works for all 20 addresses; reed input triggers reliably in bench tests. Feel free to ask for any chassis measurements or photos you need while routing.

Hi there, I’ve reviewed your SCX 1/32 digital car PCB brief carefully. I can design a compact board that fits close to the original footprint, reads the reed-sensor track signal, supports up to 20 unique IDs in firmware, and exposes a USB-C boot/flash port on the edge. Power will come from track pickups via an efficient regulator, with a small MCU chosen for ease of programming and a simple bootloader you can reach over USB-C. I’ll deliver a complete schematic, PCB layout with Gerbers, drill/PnP files, a minimal firmware example, and a brief build/programming guide. DRC will be satisfied, USB-C will enumerate, and the 20-ID addressing will be verified in bench tests. What is your preferred MCU family or bootloader approach, and any constraints on flash size or programming cadence for the 20 ID addresses? Best regards, Marko Aleksic

Hi, I can design a compact digital-decoder PCB for your SCX 1/32 car, fitting the ~24×18 mm footprint with USB-C programming and 20 unique car IDs stored in firmware. THIS IS MY APPROACH - MCU Selection: STM32G030F6 (TSSOP-20, low-cost, USB bootloader support) or ATtiny1616 with a USB-serial bridge (CH340C). Both fit the size/cost constraints and support simple reflashing. - Power: Efficient buck converter (e.g., TPS62172, 14–18V → 3.3V) with low quiescent current for track power compatibility. - Reed Input: Debounced digital input with pull-up/Schmitt trigger for reliable track signal detection. - USB-C: Edge-mounted connector (e.g., GCT USB4105) for easy access with the body shell on. Supports firmware updates via USB bootloader (STM32) or serial (ATtiny). - ID Storage: Firmware stores car ID (1–20) in EEPROM/Flash; selectable via USB command or button sequence. DELIVERABLES Schematic + PCB layout (KiCad or Altium) Gerbers, drill files, pick-and-place, BOM with distributor part numbers (Mouser/Digi-Key) Minimal firmware (C) for reed detection, ID storage/selection, and USB reflashing Build & programming guide (setup, flashing, ID assignment) ACCEPTANCE Passes DRC, USB-C enumerates, firmware updates work, all 20 IDs selectable, reed input triggers reliably Ready to start, please share chassis photos/measurements for optimal connector placement.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This is a very cool project — and very doable within your footprint constraints if we design it properly from the start. You’re essentially building a mini digital decoder board with: High-voltage track input (14–18V DC, noisy environment) Buck conversion to logic rail Small MCU with USB-C bootloading Reed sensor input conditioning Compact 24 × 18 mm footprint under 6 mm height That’s tight, but realistic. Deliverables ✔ Schematic ✔ PCB layout (KiCad preferred unless you want Altium) ✔ Gerbers + drill + PnP ✔ Full BOM with distributor links ✔ Minimal working firmware ✔ Programming + build guide Before routing I’d need: Exact mounting hole positions (if fixed) Track signal characteristics (voltage shape on reed trigger) Any motor current path constraints If you want, I can also suggest a component stack height plan to guarantee we stay under 6 mm.
