I want to automate the filling of an overhead storage tank with a compact microcontroller-based solution. The unit should sense the water level in the tank, trigger the pump when the level drops below a defined threshold, and shut the pump off once the tank is full. I am using a standard overhead tank fed by a single pump from ground level. You’re free to recommend the most reliable sensing method—, or conductive—so long as it performs accurately in typical domestic water conditions and can be serviced easily if something fails. The design must include: • A microcontroller (Arduino, ESP32, or comparable) with clearly commented firmware. • A driver stage capable of switching a 1 HP single-phase pump safely. • Manual override for both pump ON and OFF. • Visual indicators (LED or LCD) showing at least Empty, Half, and Full states. • Basic fault handling—for example, pump timeout if the tank fails to fill. I would like the complete package: schematic, BOM with component part numbers, source code, and a brief step-by-step setup guide so I can replicate or service the unit later. When you reply, mention any prior work with overhead-tank systems and which sensor technology you’d start with.

I have done with microchip microcontroller, the sensor used was float type available in electronics shops. With this kind of sensor, the life expectancy is good. We can use wires with small load attached to it. There will be a relay to operate the motor which will intern operate a contactor for high current. The device needs 12V power or we can use 230v/5V smps unit. A timer can be setup to stop the pump if the tank fails to get filled up. Do you need sensor for ground tank as well? . Let us discuss and finalize the full working.

Hello, I saw your project involves an automatic overhead water-tank controller with level sensing, a 1 HP single-phase pump, manual ON/OFF override, and fault handling. I loved that you are looking for a serviceable, reliable solution rather than simply switching the pump based on a single sensor. What do you think if I use a multi-level float-based sensing system with independent high/low thresholds for reliable domestic-water operation? I have 15+ years of experience in embedded systems, STM32/PIC/ESP32 development, PCB design, industrial automation, relay control, and sensor integration. I have worked on water-level, pump-control, HVAC, and industrial control systems, so I can design the controller with practical protection and serviceability in mind. For a domestic overhead tank, I would start with float switches because they are simple, inexpensive, electrically isolated from the water, and easy to replace. The controller can provide Empty/Half/Full indication, automatic pump control with hysteresis, manual ON/OFF, pump timeout, sensor-fault detection, and safe recovery after power loss. For the 1 HP single-phase pump, I can design the driver around a properly rated contactor with suitable overload and protection rather than relying on a small PCB relay alone. I can deliver the complete schematic, BOM with part numbers, PCB/control design, clearly commented firmware, wiring details, and a step-by-step setup/service guide. Best regards, Hamza

Hi, I can design the complete microcontroller-based overhead water tank controller, including schematic, firmware, BOM, indicators, manual override, and fault protection. For a domestic tank, I would start with 3 reliable float/reed level sensors for Empty, Half, and Full because they are simple, serviceable, and avoid calibration issues. Conductive probes can also be supported if preferred. I can deliver: • Arduino/ESP32-based controller • Automatic pump ON at low level • Automatic OFF at full level • Empty / Half / Full indication • Manual ON and OFF controls • Pump timeout / dry-run fault logic • Sensor fault detection • Relay/contactor driver interface for 1 HP pump • Electrical isolation and protection circuitry • Clearly commented C/C++ firmware • Complete schematic • BOM with part numbers • Wiring/setup guide • Source code and configuration notes For safety, the microcontroller board will control an appropriately rated isolated contactor rather than switching the 1 HP mains pump directly. I work remotely on electronics design and firmware; final mains wiring and physical testing should be completed by a qualified electrician/technician on your side, with my support for debugging and revisions. Best regards Ankit

Overhead tank automation is a problem I've solved before — I built a smart irrigation monitor with ESP32 sensor nodes and a Pi controller doing exactly this kind of threshold logic, plus a solar RFID water vending machine for a desert community in South Africa that dispenses water with zero connectivity. For your tank, I'd start with a non-contact ultrasonic sensor (JSN-SR04T, waterproof) rather than conductive probes, since it doesn't corrode in hard water and swaps out in minutes if it fails. Here's what I bring to this: → ESP32 firmware with hysteresis logic so the pump doesn't chatter at threshold points, plus pump timeout fault handling → Relay driver stage sized for your 1 HP single-phase pump, with proper isolation and snubber protection → Full package: schematic, BOM with part numbers, commented source code, and a setup guide you can service later → Manual ON/OFF override, LED or LCD showing Empty/Half/Full, and OTA-ready firmware My approach: → Confirm tank height and pump starter wiring, then pick sensor mounting position → Build and bench-test the driver stage and firmware with real pump load → Hand over tested unit, wiring diagram, and documentation For this scope, the cost would be 9000 INR — fixed, with the full package included. Happy to walk you through my past water-system work and the sensor choice on a chat.

Hello, We can design this as a reliable microcontroller-based automatic tank controller, including the sensing, pump-control logic, manual override, status indication, fault timeout and complete documentation. For a typical domestic overhead tank, we would start with float-level sensing because it is simple, inexpensive, easy to service and generally reliable in normal water conditions. If you prefer a non-contact solution, we can evaluate ultrasonic sensing instead. For the 1 HP single-phase pump, we will not rely on the microcontroller to switch the motor directly. We will design a proper driver/relay interface with a suitably rated contactor and protection arrangement so the controller and low-voltage electronics remain isolated from the pump supply. We will provide the schematic, BOM with part numbers, commented source code and a step-by-step setup/service guide. Our timeline is 5–7 days and our proposed budget is ₹7000. Before starting, please confirm the pump supply voltage, preferred sensor type, tank height, whether an LCD is required or LEDs are sufficient, and whether you need a PCB or only the controller schematic/prototype. You can also visit our profile and portfolio to review our embedded/electronics work. Regards, M&C Eng

Your overhead tank automation brief is exactly the kind of compact, practical build I enjoy — and the fault-handling detail you mentioned tells me you've thought this through properly. → I'd start with ultrasonic sensing over conductive probes — no corrosion in hard water, easier servicing, and I've built similar tank systems before. → You'll get commented ESP32 firmware, a relay/contactor driver stage for your 1 HP pump, manual ON/OFF override, LED Empty/Half/Full indicators, and pump timeout logic. → Full package: schematic, BOM with part numbers, source code, and a setup guide — all in-house, from PCB to enclosure if you want one. → Delivery in about a week, and I'll walk you through the wiring on a call so servicing later is easy.
