I’m designing a modern wall clock that quietly refreshes a large 7-10" E-Ink display over Wi-Fi. The unit has to show time, date, and basic weather data pulled from a public API, yet still run for two years and more on a single battery pack. To make that happen I need a partner who can take the idea from schematic all the way to a working prototype. What’s on my wish list • Custom PCB: low-power ESP32 (or similar Wi-Fi MCU), E-Ink display driver, real-time clock, temperature sensor for accurate weather icon control, and a battery management circuit. • Firmware: deep-sleep routines, NTP sync, simple JSON weather parsing, OTA update hooks, and a minimal web page for SSID/password entry. • Prototype assembly: populate the board, mount the large E-Ink panel, load firmware, and prove it updates reliably on batteries alone. • Documentation: full Gerbers, BOM with orderable parts, firmware source, and a concise build/read-me so I can reproduce the unit or hand it to a manufacturer. Acceptance criteria 1. From a fresh battery insertion the clock must wake only long enough to refresh hourly, targeting <1 mAh per update. 2. Display remains crisp and readable from 2 m; no ghosting after 1 week of operation. 3. Wi-Fi credentials can be changed without reflashing. 4. All files compile in PlatformIO/Arduino IDE with no warnings. If you have prior E-Ink or ultra-low-power IoT experience, share one relevant project link or brief summary in your note. I’m ready to move quickly once I see a practical timeline for schematic, PCB, and first prototype.

Hi there, Your low-power E-Ink wall clock project aligns directly with my hardware engineering background in ultra-low-power IoT, custom PCB design, and E-Paper display integration. I recently designed an ESP32-S3 e-Paper dashboard utilizing a 7.5" Waveshare display with a hardware RTC, achieving sub-15µA deep-sleep current draw. Hardware & Firmware Strategy Low-Power PCB Architecture: ESP32-S2/S3 paired with an ultra-low-leakage hardware RTC (DS3231/PCF8563) to wake the system via interrupt, an integrated EPDC driver, onboard BME280 sensor, and a high-efficiency LiSoCl2/LiPo battery management system. Firmware Optimization: Built in PlatformIO using deep sleep, partial screen refreshes to eliminate ghosting, Wi-Fi Manager (AP mode captive portal for credentials), efficient JSON parsing (ArduinoJson), and clean NTP/weather API syncs to keep active awake times under 3 seconds (<1 mAh/update). Deliverables Hardware: Production-ready KiCad files (Schematics, Gerbers, CPL, BOM with active LCSC/Mouser part numbers) and assembled prototype board. Firmware & Docs: Modular PlatformIO C++ source code, flashed binary with OTA hooks, and a step-by-step manufacturing README. Timeline Week 1: Schematic, BOM selection, and power budget review. Week 2: PCB layout, routing, and fabrication order. Week 3–4: Assembly, firmware flashing, and low-power verification. I'm ready to review your preferred display model and get started!

As an RF & Electronics Engineer, I specialize in high-frequency systems, microwave engineering, and advanced electronic design. My experience aligns perfectly with the scope of your project, from designing custom PCBs with ultra-low power microcontrollers like ESP32, to creating deep sleep routines for battery optimization. The development journey you've outlined closely resonates with the kind of work I do; from-wise selection of controller to catering the specific needs of a weather data display on an E-ink based large panel. In addition to my strong theoretical background in RF and microwave engineering including proficiency in PlatformsIO/Arduino IDE, KiCad and Proteus for PCB Design I also bring practical implementation expertise. I have worked on numerous projects where energy efficiency was critical - like yours where we aim to have the clock run on a single battery pack for multiple years without any degradation in performance. Through my hands-on understanding of firmware programming and hardware assembly involved, I am certain that I can meet all your acceptance criteria – ensuring minimal power consumption per update, maintaining picture-perfect display quality even after long durations, providing flexibility to change Wi-Fi credentials without reprogramming and compiling files

Before fixing the PCB architecture, I would first validate the two-year battery target with a realistic power budget. Hourly operation must account for ESP32 deep-sleep current, Wi-Fi wake/connection time, API/NTP traffic, E-Ink refresh energy, RTC/display standby current, and battery self-discharge. I would first confirm: • Exact 7–10" E-Ink panel and interface • Battery chemistry/capacity and available space • Whether weather needs hourly updates or can sync less frequently • Full vs partial refresh strategy to minimize ghosting • Operating temperature range I can handle the ESP32-based schematic and PCB, including low-power architecture, RTC, battery management, power-domain control, RF considerations, BOM, Gerbers and manufacturing files. I have worked on ESP32 embedded hardware and multilayer PCB designs. I would first calculate the expected energy per update and standby consumption before committing to the 2-year runtime target. Please share the E-Ink panel you plan to use and the available battery/enclosure dimensions, and I can review the architecture first.

Hi there, I am a custom hardware and firmware engineer based in India, and the founder of Bhavya Xontech Pvt. Ltd. Your ultra-low-power E-Ink clock project aligns perfectly with my core expertise in ESP32 hardware design, deep-sleep optimization, and API data parsing. Why I am a great fit: ESP32 & Low Power: I regularly design ESP32-based IoT hardware (smart home devices, automated sensor networks). I know how to achieve true <10µA sleep currents by using ultra-low quiescent LDOs, removing parasitic LEDs, and using an external RTC (like PCF8563) to strictly control the ESP32’s wake cycles. Firmware & APIs: I have experience parsing live weather and API data via JSON. I will write clean Arduino/PlatformIO code featuring captive portal (WiFiManager) for easy SSID setup without reflashing, and OTA updates. Prototyping: I have an in-house lab to assemble the PCB, integrate the 7-10" E-ink display, manage ghosting via proper refresh cycles, and test actual battery drain using a precise multimeter/oscilloscope. Timeline Estimate (To be discussed): Schematic & PCB Layout: ~10-15 Hours Firmware Development (Sleep, API, WiFi): ~15-20 Hours Prototyping & Bench Testing: ~10 Hours Note: The cost of the large E-Ink display and components should be funded upfront or billed separately. Let’s chat to finalize the architecture! Best regards, Uday Bheda Bhavya Xontech Pvt. Ltd.
