Project Overview I am looking for an experienced Embedded Systems / PCB Design Engineer to review, validate, and complete an ESP32-based Ethernet gateway project. The project is based on an ESP32-WROOM-32 module and LAN8720A Ethernet PHY and is intended to operate as an ESP-NOW to wired Ethernet/MQTT gateway. I will provide an existing project repository containing the current KiCad schematic, PCB layout, firmware, BOM, Gerber files, 3D models, and documentation. The goal is to have a professionally reviewed and production-ready design, with the firmware properly configured and tested. Existing Hardware The current design includes, among other components: * ESP32-WROOM-32 * LAN8720A Ethernet PHY * CH340C USB-to-UART interface * USB input * 3.3 V power regulation * Separate Ethernet power rail * USB ESD protection * Fuse / reverse-polarity protection * Ethernet RJ45 interface * Status LED * GPIO expansion header * ESP-NOW wireless communication * Ethernet communication through LAN8720A The PCB is a 4-layer design. Main Requirements 1. Hardware / Schematic Review Thoroughly review the existing KiCad schematic and verify: * ESP32-WROOM-32 connections * LAN8720A connections * RMII interface * Ethernet clock configuration * GPIO assignments * CH340C USB-UART circuit * Auto-programming/reset circuit * Power supply architecture * 3.3 V regulators * Decoupling capacitors * Pull-up / pull-down resistors * Reset and boot circuitry * USB protection * Ethernet connections * Grounding * Protection components * Connector pinouts * Component values and footprints Identify and correct any electrical or design issues. The objective is to ensure that the schematic is suitable for actual hardware production rather than simply passing ERC. 2. PCB Layout Review and Optimization Review the existing PCB layout in KiCad and make any necessary corrections. Particular attention should be paid to: * ESP32 placement * LAN8720A placement * RMII signal routing * Ethernet PHY routing * Clock signal routing * Power distribution * Ground planes * Decoupling capacitor placement * USB signal routing * Noise-sensitive signals * Trace widths * Clearances * Return paths * Thermal considerations * Antenna keep-out area * Connector placement * Manufacturability The final PCB should be clean, professional and suitable for fabrication.

Hello, I’m very interested in your ESP32 Ethernet/ESP-NOW to MQTT Gateway project. I have experience with ESP32, LAN8720A, RMII Ethernet, KiCad, embedded C/C++, MQTT and PCB design. I can thoroughly review your existing schematic, PCB and firmware, identify electrical or layout issues, and implement the necessary corrections. I will pay particular attention to the LAN8720A/RMII interface, power supply, decoupling, grounding, ESP32 boot circuitry, antenna keep-out, USB-UART and signal integrity. On the firmware side, I can ensure reliable ESP-NOW reception, Ethernet connectivity, MQTT publishing, automatic reconnection and OTA functionality. I will deliver the complete editable KiCad project, updated firmware, BOM, Gerbers, drill files and documentation. I focus on engineering reliability rather than simply making the design pass ERC/DRC. I’m ready to review the provided files and start immediately.

Hi, I’m interested in taking this project and turning your existing ESP32 gateway into a production-ready design. The critical area I’ll focus on first is the ESP32 ↔ LAN8720A RMII interface — clock source, GPIO mapping, timing, routing, and return paths. A design can pass ERC and still fail Ethernet in real hardware. I’ll review and correct the KiCad schematic, 4-layer PCB, power/decoupling, USB-UART, protection, grounding, antenna keep-out, and manufacturability, then verify the ESP-NOW ↔ Ethernet/MQTT firmware configuration. I’m ready to work directly from your existing repository and fix the design at engineering level, not just review it. Send me the repository and I’ll identify the critical issues first.

Thank you for sharing the repository and the detailed scope. I can review the ESP32-WROOM-32, LAN8720A RMII interface, CH340C USB-UART, power architecture, protection circuitry, and 4-layer PCB layout with a production mindset, not just ERC cleanliness. I will focus on electrical correctness, layout integrity, signal integrity, antenna keep-out compliance, grounding, decoupling, and manufacturability, then refine the schematic, PCB, and firmware configuration so the gateway is ready for fabrication and reliable operation as an ESP-NOW to Ethernet/MQTT bridge. I would begin by auditing the current design files end-to-end, identifying risks in clocking, reset/boot behavior, power sequencing, routing, and placement, then applying targeted corrections and documenting the changes clearly. A polished, production-ready result is the priority here.
