The goal is to turn an Arduino into reliable timing equipment for track-day cars. I already know the core requirement: precise lap timing triggered by track-side sensors, with each lap time shown live on an attached LCD screen so drivers can see their results as they pass the pit wall. What I need coded is: • Accurate capture of a start/finish trigger (IR beam, magnetic reed, or similar—happy to follow your recommendation) • Millisecond-level lap calculation that stores the current lap, previous lap, and best lap in memory • Real-time display of those three values on a 16×2 (or comparable) LCD; the screen should auto-update as each new lap registers • Simple push-button reset to clear the session without rebooting the board Deliverables: 1. Clean, well-commented Arduino sketch (.ino) ready to upload 2. Minimal wiring diagram showing the Arduino, chosen sensor, LCD, and reset button 3. Short parts list so I can source identical components locally 4. Quick-start guide that walks me through calibration and testing at the track I will test the build by running ten consecutive laps; the system must not miss or double-count any trigger and must display each time within one second of passing the line to be accepted.

Hi, Your lap timer is straightforward, but getting reliable timing without missed or duplicate triggers is the part that matters most. I'll build the Arduino code with millisecond-resolution timing, proper trigger filtering/debouncing, and stable lap detection so each crossing is recorded accurately. The sketch will display the current lap, previous lap, and best lap on the LCD, updating automatically after every completed lap. A dedicated reset button will clear the session instantly without requiring a reboot. Along with the Arduino ".ino" file, you'll receive a simple wiring diagram, a complete parts list with recommended components, and a quick-start guide covering setup, calibration, and track testing. If needed, I can also recommend the most reliable sensor option based on your track conditions to minimize false triggers. The code will be clean, well commented, and easy to modify if you decide to add features such as split times, SD card logging, or wireless data transfer later. I’m available to get started right away and deliver a tested, easy-to-use solution.

Hi, I can build this lap timing system exactly as you've described. The key to making it reliable is using hardware interrupts for trigger detection instead of polling, ensuring millisecond-level accuracy even when the Arduino is updating the LCD. The system will: - Capture each start/finish trigger reliably without missed or double counts. - Store and display the current lap, previous lap, and best lap in real time. - Support a push-button session reset without rebooting. - Include clean, well-commented Arduino code, a wiring diagram, parts list, and a quick-start setup guide. I have over 6 years of embedded firmware experience working on real-time systems, communication protocols, and sensor interfacing, so building dependable timing logic is something I'm very comfortable with. I'll also recommend the most suitable sensor (IR or Hall-effect) based on your track environment to maximize reliability. I can start immediately and will make sure the system is robust enough to pass your 10-lap validation test. Thanks, Ashish

Hi I can help you turn the Arduino into a dependable lap timer with accurate sensor capture and a clear live display. I have hands-on experience with Arduino firmware, hardware interrupts, sensor interfacing, LCDs and embedded timing logic. The main technical risk is electrical noise or sensor bounce causing missed or duplicate lap triggers during real track use. I’ll solve this with interrupt based detection, signal filtering, and a configurable trigger lockout that rejects false pulses without affecting valid laps. The timing code will use rollover-safe microsecond measurements and calculate the current, previous and best laps at millisecond resolution. I’ll also implement automatic LCD updates and a debounced reset button that clears the session without restarting the Arduino. The sketch will be clean and well commented, with sensor and calibration settings grouped for easy adjustment. You’ll receive the upload-ready code, wiring diagram, matching parts list, and a practical track-testing guide. Thanks, Bohdan Question Will the timing sensor be mounted on the car or permanently beside the start or finish line? What is the shortest expected lap time so I can configure a safe trigger-lockout period? Which Arduino board and LCD interface do you prefer , parallel or I2C? Will the system operate from the car’s 12 V electrical supply or a separate battery?

I have years of experience with arduino and i'm pretty sure i'd be able to complete this project for you delivering the .ino code file you asked for with a technical file with the components you need and a schema for the circuit... I'll give you as many revisions as you want to make adjustments as you please, and help you with any confusions. And on top of that if I don't finish the job within the time limit, i'll give you the final files for free so that the next person you hire would take significantly less time. Also the 7 days are the very maximum, depending on challenges and modifications i have to work with, it could go down to less than 4 days.

Hi, This is a well-scoped project and I can build exactly what you've described. A few technical notes on my approach: For the trigger, I'd recommend an IR beam-break sensor over a magnetic reed switch — it gives cleaner, faster edge detection at racing speeds and avoids the debounce issues reed switches can have on rapid diagonal passes. I'll add software debouncing regardless to guard against false triggers from vibration. For timing accuracy, I'll use Arduino's micros() for sub-millisecond precision internally, displaying results rounded to milliseconds on the LCD — well within your 1-second display requirement. Lap logic will use a simple state machine: current lap → previous lap → best lap comparison, stored in variables (or EEPROM if you'd like the best lap to persist across power cycles — happy to include that as a bonus). Deliverables will include the commented .ino sketch, a wiring diagram (Fritzing or hand-drawn, your preference), a parts list with easily sourceable components (standard IR sensor, 16x2 LCD with I2C backpack to save pins, momentary push button), and a step-by-step calibration guide for your 10-lap test. I'm confident in hitting your no-miss, no-double-count requirement through proper debounce timing and edge-triggered interrupts rather than polling, which is critical at speed. Happy to start immediately — let me know if you'd like any adjustments to the sensor choice or approach before I begin.
