It is clear that what you need to be done. I would like to explain my understanding so that you can confirm if i am going in right direction. You need to have a dynamic condition based on the loaded node added to your view. As it is the dynamic condition, that's why you want to override with the view query with the hook_views_query_alter. If you can explain me further what actually you need, may be we can get that done with the contextual filters too.
