Checkpoints have to record a watermark, not a row count. If a job dies at record 4,000 of 10,000, the tool should resume from the last committed listing ID, not re-walk from the start. That is the difference between a tool you re-run and a tool you babysit. Dedupe should not rely on the listing ID alone. Marketplaces recycle IDs, so key on the ID plus a content hash of title, price and location. That catches the same listing re-posted under a new ID, which is the duplicate that actually matters to you. Image validation needs to check bytes, not extensions. A fair share of marketplace image URLs return HTML error pages or truncated files. Checking content type and magic bytes, then retrying with backoff, is what keeps a download from quietly producing a folder of broken images. Concurrency: keep it bounded and per-host rather than maximal. Wide concurrency against one domain is how you get blocked, and a polite delay is cheaper than a ban mid-run. Structure as you described, with JSONL rather than one big JSON document so a long job stays streamable and a crash does not cost you the whole file.
