Before I knew any language, I knew the music of your lullaby. Ma, you are the roots I grew from, And the wings you never asked back. Your hands — cracked from work, soft from care — Built my world with roti, stories, and scoldings that felt like hugs. You carried me for nine months, And then carried me for a lifetime. Through fevers at 2am, through exam stress, Through heartbreaks you couldn’t fix but sat with anyway. "Khana kha liya?" was your way of saying "I love you." "Ghar jaldi aa jana" was your way of saying "The world is safe with me waiting." I see you in small things now: In the smell of mustard oil and haldi, In sarees folded with perfect corners, In prayers whispered when I leave home. You gave up sleep so I could dream, Gave up choices so I could have options, Gave up “me” so “us” could survive. The world calls you a homemaker. I call you the CEO of my life. You balance budgets and emotions, Festivals and fevers, relatives and my tantrums — All with one cup of tea and infinite patience. Ma, if I become even half the person you are, Kind, strong, selfless, and full of light — That will be my biggest achievement. So today, and every day, Let me be your shoulder like you were mine. Let me say it out loud, without hurry: Thank you. I see you. I love you. You are not just my mother.
